If consciousness can arise from literally nothing of course AI can become conscious

I thought consciousness is one, and life is a dream? Now we're saying that consciousness can suddenly arise within consciousness? 

Why are we so loose with the terminology now? 

Or is this a lowercase-uppercase situation? 

This is confusing.
