Is it just me or is South Park not really impactful anymore about society & politics

It just feels like the situation is too dire and their little cartoon trying to mock Trump is just pathetic to me, it's not funny to me like it used to be

I was so disappointed by the first episode of the new season. So much hype and people claimed it was old South Park brought back to life, and then I got pretty much everything of what imo has made the show worse and worse since the turn of the millennium.

I liked South Park when the kids were just being kids and went on funny adventures…

It just feels like in general "funny cartoon" isn't the proper response to the level of fucked up political shit that is going on these days - like it just isn't funny, I can't explain it

It never really was all that funny, just very edgy and that edginess made it somewhat funny at times. Also contained some very disguisting and bizarre scenes as well. Family guy is a lot funnier to me

Opposite reaction for me. I never liked the show, but I liked the South Park movie making fun of Saddam. I also liked the Team America movie making fun of American foreign policy/ military interventions and Kim Jong Il. So now, I’m watching this new season making fun of Donald and the current administration, and enjoying it. I think they have a knack for lampooning whoever’s in charge of terrible political situations.

In my mind they evolved from "Oh my god they killed kenny" humor to more intelligent topics like toxic masculinity, PC culture, ...

But in that same breath even though their topics did improve they lost some of their original charm.
