  1. That kind of position attracts psychos basically. Same with most high pay positions, including politicians. The non psychos are more commonly found running small businesses. But then the oligarchs point to small businesses as failures compared to these CEOs who just got very good at structuring a system and colluding with each other and corrupt politicians to leech massive wealth from the people. And turns around and says it's actually that they worked 1000x times harder, which is a lie. Nobody can work that much harder or smarter. So basically the nonpsycho small business owners can't argue with these guys because they are fundamentally oriented differently and have no desire for that kind of pay or power over masses of people in the first place.
  2. What you need is to educate people on the rise of merciless dictators to power and how such things happen. In the early phases of what seems to be an authoritarian takeover, combating disinformation is where it's at, it really starts as an "information warfare". And as you can see, someone like Musk can just purchase information spaces. I will also expect things like elections meddling internally and with neighbouring countries. If people don't fight disinformation/propaganda then that's what will win out over time, if that has more momentum than the other side. It can become so extreme that nobody either can or knows to say no/fight back anymore. If you don't want to live in that kind of country/world then it's important to "fight back" disinformation, than to just let it slide. Part of combating disinformation is to start seeing the parallels between all these people and be prepared. They'll strip more and more of your rights and freedoms, and tell you some nice sounding lies, act like they're innocent puppies, and next thing you know you have none left. I am anticipating a pretty dark scenario if people don't push back on Trump/Elon earlier on, and as well if a disaster happens on the Ukraine front because of the idiocy/corruption of Trump/Musk. Putin also has an influence over this, since Trump/Musk are too close ideologically to Putin, there is increased danger that they could be corrupted further by Putin. This is all happening rapidly before our eyes, I think the speed of which depends on how quickly the pro-democratic leaders/citizens of the world react and band and work together, learn from people like Zelensky, and Putin's opponents/critics, etc. I have to sound the alarm because I'm not too naive to think this couldn't happen on the North American continent the way things are politically at this time. The same thing happening in Russian and Ukraine could also happen in the US and Canada.
  3. There could be depending on what is happening in your country. In Canada there was a lot of incentives in place to hire overseas over locals, and the government easily fall for businesses making these kinds of "threats" that if they didn't have access to foreign workers, their businesses would stop existing, so then even your so-called "progressive" government appeases to these demands from time to time. And so the collective also has culpability because they generally want things to be "low cost for me". So if the masses don't want to pay for local/living wages then that's what you end up getting. There're degrees of corruption. There are corruption at large in this world, it's not so easy to just get rid of it, it has to come from each individual deciding for less corruption. So every government/country exist in relation to another government/country, you can't change too fast all at once (generally).
  4. You have to make this calculation with every criminal proceedings.. someone (judge/jury) has to make that call whether there was sufficient evidence for example. Some lawmaker had to make that law and decide where that line was and what the sentencing was. I think people are not happy with this guy getting a seemingly more severe punishment because others have been treated differently? I am not an expert however on case laws on this in the US. I personally don't think this guy is a great example of arguing about death penalty.. it'd be better to look at "first degree murder" as a whole and what kind of case laws surround them.
  5. I'm inclined to agree, I think for me it would be a matter of degree so to me not all "first degree murders" are equal or the same level of severity.. but this is not something that is generally taken into account it seems. I do not consider a first-time offender the same as a repeat offender.. for example.
  6. Ok but this is a bit circular because the guy who we are talking about essentially acted like a judge and gave the death penalty of this individual. That's essentially what happened because he/and lots of other people felt it was justified. So if you are anti-death penalty then you can't also be for people like this who decide to kill whom they think deserve killing. -- But then the point is also that society has to have some kind of way for peaceful protests to count/matter to prevent such things in the first place, as I was saying this guy was a symptom of that things are not working. So perhaps the "philosophical question" at hand is, what kind of rebellion is justified if peaceful protests/means gets you nowhere??
  7. Because it's not just about what is written laws on paper, it's the consciousness of the society and lawmakers, judges/justices, and how much they are influenced or not influenced by politics and their political leaders of the time. The kind of people I may think deserve the death penalty might be very different from what you think, for example. And for me that is only a very handful of people who cannot be corrected by other means, which would mean only the most severe of criminals (and repeated offences). Judges are not that independent actors from their heads of state, even the most democratic countries still have this tie.
  8. It's a difficult topic, the main reason for me to abolish death penalty (as opposed to something like a life sentence) would be that it can either be misused or misapplied. Judges have biases even with all the training they have.
  9. I would say that more benevolent CEOs generally don't earn as much money personally, they might even actively try to balance things out more. But most of the times we do not get such kind of CEOs and they prioritize themselves rather than the whole. They will pretend like they care but in actuality it is reflected in the pay (proportional to their own salary), and actions such as lobbying against unionization, anti-competition practices, that they do not care but rather more of an exploitative figure. And that, we have currently a system that rewards psychopathic CEOs as opposed to true visionary leaders. True visionary leaders who are more conscious about enslaving or exploiting other people will by definition not earn as much money because they would understand that their workers contribute just as much as they do, or not so much difference that they deserve the kind of paycheck current society claims/normalized they deserve.
  10. Well, unevenness of application is inherently unjust, and that may be what is being argued here. If it was truly even, a lot of people who are kicking around would prob be dead.
  11. Musk is more dangerous than Trump, given his actions so far. Musk comes off to me (spiritually) as closer to Putin, a cold merciless liar. He is kind of just using Trump to seize power. People really have to wake up. The "legal means" is the next election, but leading up to that there has to be efforts for educating the masses of what is actually going on. People need to stop being a Musk apologist. He is playing a psychological game by being this "corporate techno-crat". But I know this man has the potential to be a heartless dictator.
  12. Luigi is to me a symptom of the cracks starting to bulk. Whether or not he gets severe punishment, this overall symptom (as demonstrated by his supporters) that the healthcare system among other things, the way that it is running in America is terribly dysfunctional and causing a lot of suffering. People didn't immediately denounce him and rather went to his support not because they don't understand murder is inherently unjustified, but that they feel that there is no clear alternative as a normal citizen to do anything about the health care system. They're doomed if the republicans are in power, and they're doomed if the democrats are in power. To me if I was a US citizen and understand that I could be bankrupt any day due to a health issue, I'd prob try very hard to immigrate and leave that country.
  13. Just parking this here, seems to be a good documentary on Putin:
  14. The main problem with this is just that, if everyone just "turns a blind eye" then the bullies will just keep doing what they are doing (and keep getting away with it). Yes I know it's hard to fight them and it may not always be wise to, but the alternative is actually worse in most of these cases, it's just that you may not feel it "personally" until things get really really bad. The bullies will be armed in every way possible meanwhile, you have nothing and just waiting for them to take your shit. And I don't just mean "material things". So even the "sheep" may have no choice but to "arm themselves" in the presence of aggressors. Part of a "masterful bully's" tactic is to tire out peaceful sheep and lie to you about some kind of protection or superficial benefit they are offering if you submit to their unjust demands so that you are both not alerted and "de-armed". But in reality, they will not blink an eye when they take your shit or raise hell on you when you start to protest or want independence. And a lot of the times, a bully is built by people who stand there and do/say nothing and keep justifying in their mind that what they are witnessing is proper/okay. So then that's how starting bloody wars can even seem to be normal. They don't usually start with a bloody war, there was usually something before that and before that, that should've been stopped but wasn't. You can have dangerous psychopathic "toddler men" running most of this world, that's kind of what is happening. But just because they are toddler level intelligence doesn't mean they can't deal some hefty destruction.
  15. There's "laws on paper" and then there's "what justice means". Laws on paper may or may not be just. People (in law enforcement) can also not be following the law as it was intended. Justice is a broader concept that requires a lot of consciousness to understand, and may even go "against" written laws. But our judges and the system is not that conscious yet. -- But yeah to your point this case in particular would be symptomatic of a similar problem where "white collar crimes" are not penalized that much compared to other crimes, and as well the unevenness of application of what is supposed to be "equal laws". Such as that CEOs and politicians are generally more above the law than others.
  16. @Joshe He's just trying to bait us to reacting like a child like he is.
  17. Lol you're so out of touch with reality and what is being talked about, it's not even funny. Not sure why the likes of you is allowed on this forum and spreading your mind virus. You're basically a Trump and Musk clone pretending like you are engaged in some serious "epistemic discussion". You're not even close like you think you are. For your information, all of my replies are exactly "doing what I can", as opposed to you labeling it victim mindset. This is exactly my counter and response to bullies and complete idiots like you on the internet. All you are doing is exposing how much of a bigot you is with every word you are saying.
  18. @Joshe thank you. I was really getting exhausted trying to explain.. I would personally try to move to another country if someone like Trump and Elon Musk became in charge of how my country ran and dismantling everything that was set up here. If everything else failed like protests and rallying. And if there are no countries left on earth except authoritarian dictators I think I would probably not want to "be here" anymore as a human.
  19. That's good there's still checks and balances in place. I am just contemplating for a scenario where "it does somehow happen" and if he continues down this rhetoric in general. Just because of the sheer anger that many Canadians will feel about this, it would result in a lot of violence including multiple assassination attempts.
  20. Well, truth be told I think if Donald Trump seriously tries to take for example, Canada, which is ideologically very different from him, he might well get assassinated. These people are actually very dumb, they have no foresight. Trying to force masses of people against their wishes to do something is bound to lead to violence and chaos.
  21. It's hard to say how much Elon Musk is aware of his own selfishness. I think he does know. He's not so dumb and mentally retarded like some druggie for example. I mean, of course he has to believe in his own justifications to some extent to still live with himself and believe that he is a "decent human being", but I sense that a lot of these types (like him), on the back of their mind knows what the hell they're doing and continue anyways. The other thing is that, the vast majority of people simply have no experience dealing with people like this. Most of us like to believe just about everyone is a "decent human being" and just making mistakes. Unfortunately that is a rather naive and incomplete view of what is out there.. Plenty of people will exploit as much as they can given the system we have for selfish reasons, while appearing as some "knight in shining armour". And you will not understand this until you truly see one through yourself. This is reflected in the laws we have too. We massively under prosecute white collar criminals when compared to other types of crimes. White collar criminals are generally only given a "financial penalty" (as opposed to jail time) that may not even be felt in their wallet. Whereas your desperate person struggling with mental illness and lack of job/money can get stuck with the justice system for things like shoplifting.
  22. Because while he's gutting other people's livelihoods with zero thought/planning, and whatever peanuts they are getting from "social programs", he has absolutely zero interest in giving up his own massive wealth in comparison, and really he wants to increase it to fund his Mars project and whatever else that he alone (and his friends) thinks is more important. To someone like Elon Musk, funding his Mars project is far more important than paying for a poor person to get medical treatment. It's not even a question in his mind. Notice this is some unelected rich guy prioritizing his own pet project(s) and/or hoarding wealth and power, that nobody else has a say in. This is all besides the fact that he: Promotes eugenics ideology Completely blind to the danger Donald Trump poses to humanity -- There is simply no credibility whatsoever when someone with massive wealth says he wants to "save money" by gutting essential programs or other people's jobs. That will never add up in a sane person's mind. If he was to be believed by anyone, he would have to also give up his massive wealth (that he thinks he alone generated but is really generated by his entire companies as well by extension other supports he has received through taxpayers).
  23. Thank you for this thoughtful post and list of actions people can take. For the more ambitious ones out there and are in a position to do this, I also suggest to consider things like starting a youtube channel focused on fighting against misinformation, dangerous ideologies, and bigotry. That or supporting the existing channels doing this. https://www.youtube.com/@SecularTalk https://www.youtube.com/@briantylercohen https://www.youtube.com/@realchris https://www.youtube.com/@adammockler
  24. Elon is also a power hungry dictator narcissistic ego maniac at heart and has no shame with what he's doing. People are duped by him and his former rhetoric about "caring about humanity". In the end, he has proven to be far worse than even your Jeff Bezos by allying with the likes of Trump and Nazism. People are still fooled by his "superficial charm" and accomplishments, and this is one the main ways he is able to "maintain power".
  25. He's trying to ally with whomever he can that is ideologically similar to him - like Putin and Tate. It's very clear to me that he intends to form some kind of military alliance with Russia, Trump wants to be like Putin and take over other countries as he pleases. This is really dangerous the path he is on. Trump is hardly even "American" at this point, he is really just another power-hungry man who is taking advantage of a bad economic situation in the US as not only a "false messiah" but also a sellout. US citizens (as well as non-US citizens) are not alerted to this quickly enough because they are still half-asleep and trying to rationalize that this was a legitimate presidential candidate. But they have effectively elected an equivalent of "Putin and Xi in-the-making" into the Whitehouse. There are also too many corrupt leaders within the US both in terms of those who hold political office, as well as CEOs, techno-oligarchs. There is a normalization of lack of ethics and integrity that is clear to me, and this basically means there will be a weak "counter reaction" internally to Trump.
