  1. @Leo Gura One still chooses whether to practice or not though. At least it feels that way! I do see the benefits in taking the leap of faith but it has hit me how shit scary that leap is and the change it will have on my life. Points to why enlightenment is such a rare thing I suppose. @Deep Cheers. So sit back, relax, and meditate
  2. @Bob84 I don't really understand what you mean in your first sentence - I'm not debating a strategy for enlightenment I'm debating if this is the right path for me. The ego is fine
  3. @brovakhiin What's your motivation for wanting to know the truth?
  4. @electroBeam Stop taking what they say seriously and look for the things they point to in your experience. You don't have to believe anything. Although I do maintain that a normal human being believing they can fly is just sheer delusion.
  5. @Shin Go try walking through a wall and see what happens. You'll no longer have to just believe you can't walk through a wall, you'll get to prove it to yourself. How spiritual is that?!
  6. Do you drink alcohol? Since I turned 18 I've been quite a heavy drinker, but I'm turning that around.
  7. You can't control your thoughts. You're grasping for control it seems. It's good that you're now aware of the monkey mind, that's what meditation helps you to do. Just be aware of them and don't get lost in the content. The content is meaningless.
  8. @Gavalanche Yeah I appreciate that - I'm very much in the camp that you need to have some sort of practice going but it's not actually something which YOU can achieve. It's a delicate topic.
  9. @Gavalanche I think you've got this idea that enlightenment is a huge goal to strive for and it takes a lot of work. Whenever I've had an experience I just laughed at myself for even trying to "get there". The truth is always there, your mind just blocks it and alters reality to suit the organism. The only thing you can really do is move your attention from the ego. Why should it have to take that much work? That's another abstraction. Once you see through all the shit your mind comes up about reality with you'll see the truth. I'm not saying it won't take time for you but telling yourself that after ~1000 hours of work you'll get there is counterproductive. Just get doing the right shit and it will happen when it happens. You can't really choose. Depends how you do your job - if you're lost in your mind the whole time then that's not gonna do it.
  10. You're just yawning dude. Don't look for a reason. The body is doing its thing.
  11. Honestly, to start with, yes I did. But the ego has to feel special remember. The one feeling superior is the ego, it's the game it plays all the time. If one goes around preaching about their meditation it will just be annoying to others, no matter how good the person thinks it is. It's like somebody telling you how good their children are when you couldn't give less of a shit. If you think it's making you a better person to meditate/become enlightened then that's more lies I'm afraid. I don't even think it's getting me anywhere but I'm in too deep and will keep doing it daily. Don't really discuss it with anyone now, nor do I judge others who don't do it. Many people just don't want to sit and do nothing for ages, which is fair enough. I do enjoy it but also realise its meaninglessness.
  12. @Bob84 Helps you experientially show that the suffering is created by your concepts and that pain is simply an item of experience.
  13. @Aamir King You're judging them and adding concepts to reality. Let reality be exactly as it is.
  14. I look at myself and all the quick easy pleasure that I've seeked in my life, all through material things. And yet after 21 years I've had a lot of emotional problems and here I am meditating, trying to detach from the mind and find true contentment. For me materialism works in the short term but to be honest in most of the stuff I've done in life I've seeked happiness. The item itself is secondary. Hence once the initial boost wears off im back to looking again. It's unhealthy if you rely on material objects for happiness. Sends you on a never ending chase.
  15. @Schuchti11 Good stuff. Maybe your sitting position is a lot smoother than mine, I've always been uncomfortable sitting on a surface. I'm weary of over complicating meditation but with SDS experiencing the pain is kinda the point and it's definitely worse when sitting freely. Sounds like a 6 hour sit might be something you're ready for.
  16. @Schuchti11 Sitting in a chair is definitely easier and I don't think 6 hours in a chair would damage your body. In a chair I find the most difficult part is accepting the boredom and the thoughts about how long I've been sitting there. Cross legged is more about accepting physical discomfort. Before you do it I recommend doing one hour cross legged just to get an idea of the pain/emotion you will need to withstand in the later hours of your 6 hour sit. It gets pretty intense for me anyway, and I've quit on a few occasions with just a few minutes to go. I wouldn't go searching for anything in your sittings, just try to let go and accept everything, especially when pain arises. If you're thinking about trying to have an experience of some sort it will not happen.
  17. Wow that's a long sit! I only do SDS for one hour but in many sits I get really intense pain in my legs. Given the pain I experience I think six hours would cause some damage to the body. How do you find the one hour sits? Do you feel on the verge of giving up at any point? If you've no intense pain after one hour or even two hours then I doubt the 6 hours would cause you damage. Intense pain yes, lasting damage I doubt.
  18. I agree that clinging to these things makes you miss out on the important part which is direct experience, and the labels won't get you there. But with no knowledge that enlightenment is a possibility, how can one ever be open to an experience. Before I got into meditation and enlightenment none of this was on my radar screen. There's billions out there in that same state.
  19. In my humble opinion the colours mean nothing and you shouldn't get excited about them. It could just be from the fact you've had your eyes open for a long time - I get it a lot during SDS. The more you cling to these experiences the more you miss the true self because you're clinging to something within experience. I realise this is difficult not to do as you want to feel like you're progressing. I just remember Leo saying way back in early 2015 that he could feel himself getting close to enlightenment - I've used this to put myself in check when I tell myself I'm progressing - this is a thought and if you listen to it you're going down the wrong road IMO. It's only in the present moment you can see the truth - everything else is BS created by the mind. I'd check out Leo's video on how to become enlightened for a daily practice you can do. I'd also check out Naked Reality's channel - he's enlightened and has some great videos on the subject.
  20. Weird, it seems kinda obvious to me right now that all of this (thoughts, feelings, reactions etc) is just a result of the human's programmed functions, and that the illusion of control is created through a lot of arbitrary labelling and thoughts which one identifies with. This realisation itself is a function of the programming - still arbitrary thoughts and labels. If you do become enlightened you may realise that the self inquiry was in itself unnecessary and created by the false self.
  21. @Prabhaker I'm not sure why you said this, I was suggesting that electroBeam changes his practice.
  22. I've definitely had effects and I've only been doing it consistently for 3 months - mainly using the do nothing technique with some others thrown in. How about changing the technique?
  23. I've heard from Leo, Rupert Spira and many posters on here that once you are touched by the truth of existence there can be no return to the previous state. It's almost certain that this will manifest to a greater realisation. Does this mean that if you have a little experience of the no-self and of the truth of awareness that it will never leave, and that you cannot return to the previous ignorance you had? If not that, what does it really mean? Also, why is this the case? Does the ego weaken sufficiently in this realisation? Does this trigger a new viewpoint which won't move?
  24. @John Flores Interesting, was it hearing what Leo said and connecting this with your experience which made you realise there was no return?
