  1. @Joseph Maynor That's called being a zen devil, see the video on that topic to learn of the pitfalls
  2. @Coraline It's that issue of balance again. If you want to create results in your life it's important to do certain things with direction, focus and consistency But... too much of that is robotic and dulling to the intuition, spontenaity, creativity and playfulness, acceptance, letting go, all that good stuff So, I'd say figure out where you can relax more, how you can give yourself time to let loose so to speak, and still get things done. It could also play out in approach, you could try approaching even rigid tasks with more ease and it could lighten up the routine. There's going to be the daily ways, weekly ways and yearly ways of balancing your schedule with ease so do that as appropriate too like a holiday
  3. @Visionary I've found questioning very helpful, it leads to a domino effect kind of thing where you can end up moving towards or reaching better conclusions, more in tune with greater perspective. Have you ever had those moments where you just stop for a second and you go into a quiet kind of lull where questions about something are swirling around on your mind and it leads to a change in direction or new understanding? Like that! Its probably important to ensure emotions are in check and that it's not a forceful kind of questioning but just genuinely feeling relaxed and then wondering
  4. This picture would look super interesting from an alien's perspective after seeing tons of planets just bare, then this! We're so used to it but if we didn't know what humans or Earth were, wow!
  5. @MM1988 Memory is an interesting topic because I think this is responsible for a lot of our sense of self. We can merge a thought we've had in the 'past' with one now, with one into the future and it creates a coherent story of who you are. It gives this sense of consistency of yourself. If one was to become enlightened that would have transcended the memory level of perception, because you're not identified with that cohesive string of thoughts from 'me' in this location this time to that location and that time, so the englightenment itself wouldn't be dependent on a memory of it, it wouldn't be part of the story or the thought string, maybe then from that there's only the sense of moment by moment awareness, that's the way I see memory would become irrelevant. It's just a speculation but perhaps that helps somewhat.
  6. @Max_V There's always basic principles from all the information and it's best to remember it through repitition, which just comes from engaging in the material, that's still effective if you don't want to take full on notes and book highlighting, you'll start understanding things like osmosis lol Then as you go about your life, experiences will happen, and especially when you become curious about your functioning in a certain area, or a problem arises.. that's when the learning happens. You use those opportunities to first be mindful and notice what's happening, then you can from memory start using whatever you've learnt and putting it into practice. You may have to go back and adjust to learn more if what you have isn't effective. Through lots of application in this manner, you build up a deeper and deeper understanding of a concept you've remembered. Soon you'll start seeing links between everything and certain more useful reactions become habitual It's just like any skill, like say learning a piano, learn some theory, you'll end up remembering it, then in practice you understand more and more the nuances of how to apply it, when etc.
  7. @Psyche_92 I think you'd find affirmations helpful, ones that challenge your assumption of being unworthy of your passion in life. Your teachers words may not have been enough because you probably still have beleifs about why they're wrong, so challenge those using affirmations. I also agree with Girzo, you probably are scared of failure too. Change your definition of failure, see every failure as a learning curve, that way there's only success no matter what you get. Failures are always showing you the way, you might like this quote which I just came across myself funnily enough "Great ones are willing to get burned time and again as they sharpen their swords in the fire" You learn the most when you fail, look forward to it!!
  8. @kieranperez Maybe you feel being the opposite leaves you vulnerable to becoming a doormat and people destroying your sense of self worth? In that case it may be a self esteem issue so try researching about that
  9. In that case choose however many you feel comfortable with and what your time allows you to focus on I'm currently working on 3 new habits and stopping one old habit and it's working out easily. As long as you have that initial 'click' of motivation and knowing that you can do it, the process isn't much of a hassle. You don't need willpower for the entire process of a habit it's only needed for the decision to do it
  10. @The Monk If you're worried about numbers it's best to choose habits that give you the biggest results or leverage, the most important ones that create most change first Try to understand why you backslide, are the motivations effective ones? Do you have obstacles that make it difficult to upkeep the habit?
  11. @DawnOfReality I think the test is mainly highlighting the strength of the values so definitely take it on as that meaning, prudence is good judgement and wisdom, so it's best to focus on that part of it, rather than where you might use it in a limiting way, that's something else you can work on personal development wise. Same thing with the other ones. The rest of it, don't overthink, go with your gut instinct of who you know yourself to be. Choose those that feel strong and you enjoy using them, enjoyment is a factor here, never mind if it could be used as a weakness or the imprortance level. From there you can decide whether prudence or perseverance etc. Whatever comes naturally and authentically Remember over time these will change as will your values, it's a constant flux and comes from observing yourself and it's best to come up with the answers through experience of life too, so think a little about it but after that you will start seeing more clearly from experience and you can change them as you see fit
  12. @Damir Elezi It helps to see it as response-ability.
  13. @Aidan I define it as all 'illusions of belonging', but I like your term too of juicy ego It just means that everything we do and enjoy about life like entertainment, socialising and big aspirations, gives us a sense of being 'in' the world, like we belong and have something important to do. Let that feel fake and then come nihilistic feelings, but again for that there's the illusion of not-belonging to look out for too Same as you it helped me drop some habits seeing it like that much more easily than by effort, but being in a grey area is also uncomfortable when it comes to relating to the world. I just stay mindful of it but carry on with things I need to
  14. @Scholar I feel the same doing certain tasks too long With fatigue, it could be a 'flow' issue, do you ever notice the task may be too boring or monotonous? Or maybe it doesn't have enough variety to it. Or it could be the method of doing something is not enticing to your tastes e.g. Some people love research type skill while others prefer practical skill which requires using the hands, maybe combined with creativity, or another person would prefer to combine it with numerical/logical skill I notice these issues with myself, but it's tricky coming up with ways around such personal preferences especially if you have to read a long textbook for example to get information. I could be overthinking it and maybe focus is the main factor and just has to be built. Another thought I have is maybe it's the end goal the task is trying to achieve, as in the vision. Vision could be a great motivator. Compare someone who is making pottery because their job is that, it's just a technical skill vs someone who's making a shop of pottery with the most inspiring designs to create beauty in people's homes, i think they'll each have a different attitude and ability to work hard.
  15. @DawnOfReality I think you got it all in your conclusion Maybe you prefer knowledge as "Practical knowledge" or just "Learning" because learning doesn't have to just mean gaining loads of knowledge so it's more flexible for you For courage and independence it might be useful to ask "Do i still enjoy these as a value if I had it 10/10 embodied?" e.g. You might get independence from family, financially etc and still enjoy your own individual expression so it's easier to see that it's more positive than negative motivation If you take out any others and add new ones just keep asking yourself questions then go with the gut feeling and see if you enjoy those values in their own right, 10/10 embodied regardless of what your life looks like now. Good luck, enjoy this fun process lol
  16. @Mario Confusion can be natural and it is something just to be patient with until your figure out exactly what to do for your own life specifically. Dont take the information and use it to the extreme, you must be balanced and reasonable. Make it fit more appropriately to your life. If you're healthy in your approach your parents should also back off in seeing you're fine. One step at a time... and if you see the psychiatrist it's probably best not to start talking about God and psychedelics and calling them a devil Just say you like personal development and meditation
  17. @Nadosa It might be a sign of progress and not the activities themselves, keep doing what you're doing without giving up or changing anything. It's probably the dark side of meditation cropping up, you don't feel as good but it's because you're moving past a threshold. Another reason could be certain activities are just not suited to you now particularly if they dull the mind and you may just be noticing that. Finally not every activity has to be mindful, certain things that use the mind like intellectual work or creativity means you have to be less mindful and use that monkey mind instead which again you will probably notice more sharply when coming out of it because of meditation benefits.
  18. # It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under #
  19. @DawnOfReality Try asking yourself and directly trying to answer, what exactly doesn't feel right about this value? Is there something you could add or take away to make it more authentic? Is any discomfort arising regarding a certain aspect of the value? Why? Do I choose these values but then not like the idea of acting on them for any reason? Maybe you could share with us your values and we can figure it out Some values you may want to adjust and put in your own words, the list is meant as a guide so it doesn't have to be directly the same as the words on there e.g. One value I came up with was 'Meaningful interaction' which has the component of kindness and generosity but I don't necessarily like those values in their own right so I had to adjust it to myself and a preferred context Think about your life experience and what you've seen yourself doing and preferring to do. Also try thinking of times where something was authentic but you held yourself back from expressing that or bringing it into your life (that would help find where your self esteem might be coming in). A way to perhaps take your self esteem out of it (unless who knows maybe projection gets in the way lol) would be to role models or people you like. What do you like about them, maybe they express authentically a value that is truer for you?
  20. @uriel india Try to stop seeing it as a mistake but just a way of being for the other person, watch it play out, recognise you can't fix things out there and it's not your job, remember we have so much ignorance that pointing out there makes us more ignorant to ourselves, so when you catch yourself ask "how do I display this behaviour myself?" Maybe because of the issue with your father you may like pointing out there to protect yourself, in that case if you see a mistake out there it could help to ask "how can I minimise the harm done to myself from this action?", "what can I do to take responsibility for my own wellbeing so I don't get hurt?", "does that mistake out there affect my wellbeing anyway, is it useless to worry about it?"
  21. @key Develop a desire or motivation to connect with being. It helps to notice how much 'doing' you engage in all day, and you will begin gravitating towards just wanting to stop and get to know yourself with being. This also helps you to do meditation for the process and not striving for results that may get you demotivated when they don't come. Remember also the whole process is about coming back after thoughts distract you and take enjoyment out of practicing this skill. Relax into observing things. Try to set some time with a little force and effort at first but always remember the whole motivation for doing it and the importance of connecting to being for your life day to day and also in the big picture.
  22. @Joseph Maynor Language was constructed as time went on, its more a by-product that reflects what we already function from when born into this world
  23. @sgn I thought you put an image up that hadn't loaded for me and thought "I can't see anything" and as I continued to scroll down it hit me "oh" haha!
  24. @Socrates It'll be subjective but in terms of anime I find something magical about studio ghibli films, like totoroooo
  25. @Alexo45 Focus on small steps, if you can only learn one thing at a time and read for 10 minutes at a time, just do that consistently. Recognise in yourself how your improvement is happening a little at a time and that your competence will gradually get better too. I think you're stressing yourself out with goals that are too far out of your current comfort zone, the perfect place for learning is only a little bit out of your current level but not so far ahead. The little bit of challenge will feel exciting but not daunting, a nice dose of mental effort but not over strained or hopelessly grasping at something too difficult.
