  1. Not sure, but my guess is that when the Jews arrived 1000+ years ago, the native Medieval European kingdoms saw them as outsiders, and hence a threat. Many Jews even died during the Crusades for this reason.
  2. Antisemitism has been in Europe for centuries, I'm sure when Hitler came out against Jews in his speeches, your average European wasn't in shock, but either was nonchalant or even agreed to his points. The same goes for his racialist views. These things were not "fringe" back in early 20th century Europe, in a way they were a part of the mainstream.
  3. @Dryas I thought the exact same thing when I was a teenager. Give yourself some years of life experience, and then go back and read the Alchemist again. Trust me, it will hit you very differently, and you will have a newfound respect for the meaning behind the book.
  4. He talks about living a conscious life purpose. I love how he explains this using aspects of magical realism.
  5. How come in the west, society is a lot more relaxed on sexuality, drinking, drug use, and new and abstract ways of thinking, whereas in eastern cultures from my experience (and as an Indian American), society leans more towards being uptight about those things listed? What makes western culture unique in that its more open in that regards? Not saying any culture is right or wrong, considering that culture itself is heavily nuanced, and right and wrong are almost always biased.
  6. Yea, but even stage blue people here in America don't have as much of an uptight view on those things.
  7. My best guess would be innate survival instincts?
  8. @Thestarguitarist14 were you able to learn the lesson and value from the video?
  9. The whole nation of India, minus major cities and the capital.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYjYL448-yY&ab_channel=J.Krishnamurti-OfficialChannel This well renowned philosopher perfectly describes how we created the image of god as a thought, and we eventually worship that thought.
  11. There's no such thing as low consciousness or high consciousness life purpose, a life purpose is a life purpose. Once fulfilled, then you can move on to a higher purpose.
  12. not one word but here it goes: a meaningless universe, a universe where everything is random and happens by dumb luck. The fact that existence itself, is dumb luck.
  13. Already had it, felt like the flu. Yea, at this point everyone I know got it and recovered.
  14. Recently, my girlfriend and I found out that she was pregnant about a week ago. Unfortunately, that same weekend, she experienced a miscarriage. To make matters worse, she recently went to Planned Parenthood, and found out that it wasn't just one....but two. That's right, she was pregnant with twins. At first I didn't really react emotionally, as I was in disbelief that she was pregnant in the first place. But now I feel like everything is hitting me, and everything is especially hitting my girlfriend like a truck. The grief I see in her is hard, and while I am dealing with coming to terms with what actually happened, she's feeling the worst pain, emotionally and physically. I don't know what to do at all! When I talk about the situation, she says I'm being too pragmatic and says its not helpful at all, which I understand. What can I do, as the male in this relationship, to comfort her? In desperate need of some advice, as I never saw myself in a million years having to deal with this.
  15. Try making her more comfortable? Ease her into it maybe?
  16. I'm just confused....I mean in a way, its hitting me that I was about to be a father. But I'm not ready to have kids, so in the practical sense, yea I am happy about this unintended abortion, if I can put it like that. But in an emotional and instinctual sense, it hurts. I would have been the father of those kids. So its very much of a bittersweet feeling.
  17. Yea I am trying to be loving and supportive, and in fact I myself am dealing with it as well, mostly in shock and confusion, but I don't know what to do when she gets reoccurring dreams about having miscarriages. It's really difficult. It also doesn't help that we both come from orthodox Indian families, and in a way have to hide and pretend nothing happened.
  18. @DocWatts Say that again if someone tries breaking into your home
  19. @Leo Gura I highly suggest you add "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse to your book list. It sums up, though simplistically, everything you talk about the true nature of reality, universal truth, etc.
  20. Basic question, why do people refer to Russia as if it's separate from Europe? Wasn't Russia one of the leading Imperial European powers before the Marxist revolution? Tsarist Russia was as European as the British or French empires. Was it the communist revolution that changed everything? After reading Russian history, I feel that Russia is more European than Spain, Italy, and Greece. Russia is a very white society, more white than all the countries I just named. Why isn't it considered just another European country? It's history is same as literally every European country out there.
  21. Do you know how many servers is this website being run on? (I am a Comp Sci student, so I might be able to figure out the issue)
