Yes- my ego would never allow me to murder my parents in their sleep because I have strong positive emotions towards them. It's a bias, nothing objective. Self preservation and the preservation of one's tribe is reinforced by my emotions. A mistake I've made in this work countless times is demonizing notions of 'ego' and 'survival' .. some aspects provide a foundation for living a healthy life, not all ideas of morality are bad from a function of pure pragmatism.

As a person who leans extroverted, I think we’re being way too sensitive on the socialization topic to be honest. I took the post as simply highlighting an aspect of getting older and wiser. No one ever said socialization was bad, but it something you go through and grow out of as you age (assuming you actually grow up-some people stay stupid well into their 50s/60s). Even everyday people who are not monks or yogis have had the experience of socializing less and having less surface level friendships later in life-it’s natural to a degree. If amount socialization was the hallmark measure of wisdom, it would be the opposite.

@Leo Gura I like how you tied solitude to financial independence. I’ve had the same insights about socialization, but also recognized the limits of having to maintain a job to feed myself (I am a project manager in tech). I’m also dependent on some relationships for emotional support and well being. I try to make sure I have at least a two or three days a week free of social commitments. It does get easier as I get older, and I enjoy it more. I also have friends and family in my life that I love dearly, and make time for them because I enjoy connecting. Balance is key for me.

Makes sense-as we see today the ungodly amount of corporate lobby in government. The more tax breaks and deregulations these companies get-the larger they get, thus putting themselves in position to enslave the masses. Common folk have little defense against this, other than properly understanding how these things work to purify the system through the voting process-which they suck at doing. It’s sad

Yes, but this assumes that recruitment practices are fair and unbiased from the start. There's a lot of criticism of DEI these days, some of which is legitimate-but one constructive thing it did was bring awareness of unconscious bias to upper and mid level management as it relates recruitment and hiring practices- making things more fair and equitable, and free of discrimination. The Trump Administration is throwing the baby out with the bath water when it comes to DEI. As typical with most conservatives, they are poor at steel-manning alternative perspectives and are blind to value propositions that don't directly serve their self interest, or interest of their tribe.

I think it's more complex than that- extends beyond Trump and into the collective consciousness of Americans. This is quite a bold policy Trump is enacting, not to be taken lightly.

Good point, very nuanced. Question is, what is the method of measuring trans affect on military capability? Also, how do we know if that measure is fair or objective and free of cultural bias? I don't think anyone has seriously been under the impression that the military is a humanist organization. This is often a right wing talking point to avoid addressing the legitimate grievances of minorities and disenfranchised groups-both in the military, and those seeking to enlist.

@Talinn thanks for sharing your experience. It's tough seeing this in our politics. I couch that with saying the US has made significant progress on the subject of trans rights, relative to other less advanced societies. Still many more decades of progress to be made.

This ban doesn't come remotely close to Jim Crow- society is way too advanced to have anything comparable to that. We have to be careful with false equivalency-

Richard Nixon’s views on homosexuality : Here’s another one: I hesitate to call these low perspectives, as the 1960s were a different time relative to today- but I note that Nixon’s perspective is based on a belief in various absolutes truth claims about gays and their impact on society/culture. He also interprets historical facts/figures to reinforce these truth claims-possibly misattributing causality of homosexualitys role in the collapse of Greek and Roman empires- all in an effort to buttress his worldview.

@Leo Gura excellent work. I’d much rather use the methods of deconstruction to get higher truths about the nature of reality, than to do so for the sake of postmodernist ideology. Haven’t contemplated the pre modern yet. whats interesting is modern is correct in that there is a “universal” truth, but it’s not at the level of abstract concepts and belief systems. It needs to acknowledge relativity to go beyond this.
