  2. It depends on how confident you are in the guru
  3. I know a little about Hindu nationalism but if you are more informed about how this relate to India let us know. Muslims are big on God so I don't see the remark relating to them. It sounded to me like a remark that somebody might make the same way in America, the idea that leftists, a lot of them are probably atheist, that is the assumption. How much does Sadhguru like Prime Minister Modi? Some people speculate that Sadhguru might try to run for political office How similar are Indian "leftists" similar in India to American and European leftists? this is going off topic I don't want to get into it in too many posts so I won't post the video but Sadhguru has an interesting video called " Why Sadhguru Called Himself Far More Leftist Than Others?", in youtube (it's sort of a trick title)
  4. No the numbers are not going to help you, you will have to face yourself. Write don't the number on a piece of paper and then burn it , that's delusion. It has no power. What you are describing , the rollercoaster. this is not the type of consciousness that you need. Before you go to bed say " give me stability" 50 times and as you say it write it. This is not anything magical. It is self hypnosis. When you awake again. This is the stability you need before elevating your consciousness. Several days of this, lets' say 5. Does the number 5 mean anything? Not at all it could be six. You could could say the 49 times or 51. The numbers don't matter. The concept matters, balance and stability, dedication to it. Put consciousness out of your mind. That will rise naturally once you have the stability. And what if you feel the rollercoaster again? Return to the stability. "Give me stability" . This is a demand to the self. It takes repetitious tedium for the subconscious to finally accept it. This is an exercise to maintain. You will gain strength by this. And stay away from unstable people, that will only make you lose footing. Decide what you want and don't listen to the mind's foolishness. What if eleven comes into you mind again? Fine, say "foolishness" if it comes up. These thoughts they come an they go. That is just background noise. Decide what you want, Write it, say it. Everything must have a solid foundation. Mystifying numbers is magical thinking. It's for children and psychics trying to sell or manipulate.
  5. On aspect to this is if you use mindfulness meditations techniques these are not intended to produce psychedelic type experiences. They are supposed to produce high states of awareness and clarity - and accidentally one might sometimes have a hallucination. This is regarded by many Buddhists as makyō a momentary delusion, a distraction. Not something bad but something not especially significant. However if you wanted to meditate and have hallucination states that can be induced by with different meditation techniques and physical body methods.
  6. Walkingstick 111 454 subscribers ***Update***: I no longer work with Dr.Gerardo Sandoval and highly recommend doing your due diligence in researching and finding an appropriate facilitator. One year after a very intense, dramatic experience filmed for Vice TV, I found myself back in the Sonoran Desert and on the launch pad, to both face some fear, immense power and a high level of surrender. Big thanks to Dr.Gerardo Sandoval, Martina and Stepan for taking care of me during my journey. And thanks to Mother Nature for providing this medicine and the amazing setting. Thanks to Lucie Havlínová for filming this experience in its entirety. I have worked with Dr.Sandoval-Isaac on several occasions and highly recommend him as a guide, I literally trust him with my life, luckily I've not been let down. That being said, it is important to remember that the medicine itself is the real star. The doc is there to facilitate and support, the rest is up to you and the medicine. Surrender is key. The medicine is so powerful and my surrender so complete that my physical body gets tossed around. It is surprising to me that the vocal response is always "Ayayayayayayayaa", is this my battle cry? The following describes what I'm feeling around the 9:00 minute mark: I am at the peak of the experience in terms of absolute bliss, the sky is blooming and I'm seeing something so incredibly beautiful, I'm part of it. Beyond fucking words. I feel the presence of everyone and everything together. I feel like we all just experienced something incredible together. We have merged. We are ONE! I couldn't even see the actual people around me and was unaware of my physical movements. There was some turbulence before I got to this point, but when I arrived and got hold of the power, I was rewarded to the core of my existence. PURE LOVE. I've felt it with every particle of my being. It is real and with me always
  7. It's one of the main Thereveda Vipassana techniques usually called "noting" , Burmese method of mindful meditation This is no more boring and tedious than many other sitting meditation methods. The harder, like push ups, the more development, with consistent routine, building mental self awareness "muscle". for instance having to deal with boredom and any unpleasantness that might arise, negative thoughts, physical discomfort, external sounds-distractions. And often interspersed with feelings of tranquility and peace, all of these things which naturally rise in the mind and then learning not to cling to any of them, they rise and then fall, noting this "labeling" it disappears a pause of nothingness and something else rises, then falls. This leads to awareness and clarity becoming aware of the minds automations and emotions begging for attention. However If one becomes attracted to enraptured sensory experiences, sometimes with a shamanic guide, ritual music, body movements, in some cases hallucinogens then we can predict what may happen when someone then returns to mindful meditation, sitting still, it could become that much more "boring" in contrast. The question becomes can one deal with one's own demons when there are no other worlds to escape to? It's not easy. Some people have different goals VIDEO Shinzen, Noting pt 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StBTuX0tqU8 Shinzen, Noting pt 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGcpzuHgrQk ______________________________________________________________
  8. How long have you had the Tiger avatar ?
  9. The above is not the famous "Sadhguru" that most people know (he spells it with an "h") "Sadguru" means true guru. Other gurus also use it attached to their full name The above is the contents of a book by the other guru l already mentioned who died in 1936 Siddharameshwar, his book Master Key to Self-Realization. The words there "Jai Sadguru Parabrahman" is not a persons name it means "hail the true teacher of the highest Brahman" _____________________________________________ Master Key to Self-Realization a collection of 130 talks that were given by Shri Siddharameshwar Maharaj, guru of Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj and Shri Ranjit Maharaj. The talks in this book were recorded and edited by Nisargadatta Maharaj and were originally published by him in two volumes in the Marathi language under the name of "Adhyatma Jnanacha Yogeshwar" in the years 1960 and 1961. The text was reprinted in the year 2000 at the insistence of Shri Ranjit Maharaj. Afterwards it was translated into English for this book, truly a modern day spiritual classic in its own right. Also included within the covers of this book is the text "Master Key to Self-Realization" which was authored by Shri Siddharameshwar Maharaj in the form of a methodical explanation of many fundamental principles of Advaita Vedanta and Self-Realization. The teaching found here helps the aspirant to form a solid foundation for understanding the fundamental principles of non-duality and in realizing one's True Nature.
  10. Don't tell me what to do please. I Condescension is not going to do anything positive
  11. I bolded the above. I'm not sure if Leo would agree with that If such distinctions are valid I don't think they would be made randomly
  12. Adyashanti Swami Avdheshanand Martin Ball Dali Lama ( current Tenzin Gyatso) Jeff Foster Leo Gura Thích Nhất Hạnh Sam Harris Bentinho Massaro Jed McKenna Mooji Peter Ralston Ramaji Sadhguru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Shinzen Shunyamurti Rupert Spira Eckhart Tolle I'm looking at this list and it brings some questions to mind. I'm going to code it with letters, if anybody feels like doing it , copy the list and put the appropriate letters on the name First, each name select one letter from A, B, C, or D A) you consider them a teaching mainly nondualism B) you consider them a teaching some nondualism but a lot of others things not nondualism C) they say they are not a nondualist when asked D) claims to be a nondualist but you think they aren't ___________________________________________ and then go back and add a second letter to each name E,F,G or H E) The frequently talk about God F) They mention God but rarely G) They almost never talk about God H) They say they are an atheist ______________________________________________ So each name gets a letter, one about nondualism and another about how much they talk about God or don't This is not a test it's mainly a subjective thing. Some people may be more informed than me on some of these teachers I think the interesting thing about this is many of these teachers may teach some similar things but each one has a distinctive personality and way of speaking. People may ask "but how do you define________" . Don't worry about that define terms in your own way
  13. No. I am not twisting anything. The topic is God, Zen and Advaita Vedanta your particular interpretation of what God means. Traditional Zen practitioners do not speak about God. The Buddha taught a doctrine called anatta, which is often defined as "no-self," or the teaching that the sense of being a permanent, autonomous self is an illusion. This does not fit our ordinary experience. Am I not me? If not, who is reading this article right now? The Buddha discouraged his disciples from speculating about the self. For example, in the Sabbasava Sutta (Pali Sutta-pitaka, Majjhima Nikaya 2) he advised us not to ponder certain questions, such as "Am I? Am I not?" because this would lead to six kinds of wrong views: 1. I have a self. 2. I have no self. 3. By means of a self I perceive self. 4. By means of a self I perceive not-self. 5. By means of not-self I perceive self. 6. The self of mine that knows is everlasting and will stay as it is forever.
  14. It is a thought provoking video but I'm I'm not sure If I agree. He is a good storyteller Another thing I noticed is that he equated atheists to leftists
  15. so is that an observation that the insights are innately special experiences not applicable to everyday life or do you intend to try to embody them more in your everyday life?
  16. Zen and Advaita Vedanta may not be self-proclaiming atheists but they are nondual traditions and some might consider them atheist by default. Buddhism often does not address the question of if a god exists or not. The traditions that are oriented toward God mention it frequently. It is a focal point Tibetan Buddhism is more influenced by Hindu deities but in the article I posted earlier these deities are discussed in terms of to what extent they are regarded as real beings and to what extent they symbolize principles and to what extent syncretism with native pre-Buddhist Tibetan religion. It is not known if Buddha was exposed to "one God" monotheism or only the polytheism common to his locale Bhakti Hinduism on the other hand Bhakti refers to devotion, participation in and the love of a personal god or a representational god by a devotee. I welcome anyone who has further comment or information
  17. A square of a real person in the public square means the person is being tributed an exemplary member of the community. Times change, buildings are torn down, new ones built. Let somebody buy it if they want to. If no buyers melt it to scrap. Take some pictures if you like for historical documentation. But that old slave owning bastard has got to go
  18. Zen and Advaita Vedanta practitioners don't proclaim atheism So to lack a belief in the existence of a god or gods one is not required to proclaim they are an "atheist". Jews, Christians, Muslims, they all say they exist and believe in God at the same time. The idea that God exists but oneself does not is not common. Unlike Buddhism, but like Jainism, all Vedanta sub-schools consider the existence of Atman (real self, soul) as self-evident. The Vedanta tradition posits the concept of Brahman as the eternal, unchanging metaphysical reality of the universe. The various sub-schools of Vedanta have different views on the relation between Atman and Brahman. The Advaita school of Vedanta considers them to be identical. A drop merging in the Ocean, an analogy for the Atman merging into the Brahman Advaita Vedanta asserts that gaining the knowledge of one's true self or Atman is the only way to liberation.Along with self-knowledge, it teaches that moksha can be achieved by the correct understanding of one's true identity as Ātman, the eternal and unchanging witness consciousness, and the identity of Ātman and Brahman as one, Brahman being the highest Universal Principle, the Ultimate Reality in the universe
  19. When I sit down and meditate I don't make inquires. Such things block awareness
  20. I disagree, Belief that oneself exists or statements referring to "I" are not part of the definition of atheism.
  21. Sometimes an intermediate teacher is more effective teaching a beginner than an advanced teacher is. And sometimes advanced knowledge is dangerous for someone who has not attained a certain level of mastery.
  22. makyō is the Japanese word that means "realm of demons/monsters". In Zen, it is a figurative reference to a self-delusion that results from clinging to an experience and making a conceptual "nest" out of it for oneself. Makyō is essentially synonymous with illusion, but especially in reference to experiences that can occur within meditation practice. They are saying it's something that may occur but is passing distraction from no mind. That however is just one opinion an may not necessarily be "right" However what is your description of this state and did you mediate in an unusual way when this occurred? I assume what you mean by this it is the materialism of introducing a chemical to the brain
  23. Sometimes a difference raised between belief in a personal gods or belief in impersonal god/s Also, looking at a given tradition, they might answer a question regarding god or deities if asked but depending on the tradition they may not talk about god/s in their everyday teachings. To others it is central
  24. depending on the psychedelic you could have very intense hallucinations and altered states of perception in a matter of seconds with no preparation
