I don't think he was trying to make fun of you. He was giving an alternative state of mind about your situation. Yes debt sucks, and it can be crippling. I'm sorry for whatever hurt you're going through. However it will be better for you to change your attitude towards it. Rather than feeling debt as a crippling straight jacket, think of it as a heavy weight on your shoulders. You can train yourself to get the strength to eventually lift that weight off. It might take cutting some spending and habits here and there, working for a promotion where you are, or taking on an extra job in your spare time. The cost might be a significant sacrifice, but it will just be temporary. The sooner you pay it the sooner you are free. 5 years of grinding and then 5 years debt free, is better than 10 years of financial constraint.

You are finding it hard because it's basically impossible to go from friends/hanging out with a girl to a sexual relationship. Once a girl sees you a certain way her perspective and category of you will crystalize. If you are going to use Online dating as a male (unless gay), set your expectations to zero. It's the perfect platform and representation of our broken and delusional culture, and the extreme hypergamy that gets worse every year. Ok I think I get the picture now. Speaking from my own experiences, don't wait too long or until the day she finally gives you "permission". It's up to you as the man to lead and make her feel comfortable and intrigued, to make her want to have sex with you. It's counterintuitive because you don't want to be naggy or pushing for sex like a dog, because that will annoy her and make her feel closed off to you. But at the same time you can't cede all ground and let her feel like she has impunitive control over if you have sex or not, because she isn't going to stoke those feelings herself. Women don't really like to take complete responsibility for that stuff. They say they will but then when you give it to them they'll resent you for it a lot of the time. Think, "Why didn't he make a move? I was giving him all the signals." If you wait too long without escalating and showing romantic intent (to fuck her), she will just let enough time pass to where she loses those kinds of feelings for you. I'm not talking about pundits and talking heads, I mean the more regular Joe kind of people you see in everyday life. Not the people online. Life is so much more simple to them it seems. They are content just working hard for 40 hours a week, getting a case of beer for the weekend and hanging out outside. When I run into ideological people IRL on either side, I usually poke the bear and bit and ask them things to challenge their worldview. I noticed Conservative leaning people might get a little annoyed,say something stupid, or just laugh. But it's mostly a shoulder shrugging "whatever" response. When I challenge Liberal leaning people they much more defensive and offended. Almost to the point you're an enemy and the potential for any friendship is gone. They might even report you to HR or try to get you in trouble somehow. This is just my personal experience in modern Canada.
