  1. @Alexo45 great! But know it probably won't last forever.
  2. When a though arises, it's a thought, not a sentence. So then you could go put it into words. That will always take more time than being aware of the thought itself. Some thoughts are actually very hard to put into words.
  3. Because you get interested in one thing, then learn about it, then integrate it, and then move on to the next thing? Sounds like you're doing great on self-actualizing!
  4. @Alexo45 at some point you will realize that going with the flow and accepting life as it is can go hand in hand with having goals and improving yourself. Would you stop improving your character in a game, even though you know it's not you?
  5. A conscious person is conscious of an unpleasant thought, and will not dwell on it nor suppress it. A conscious person is also conscious of a pleasant thought, and will not act on it.
  6. The reason most people are doing self-destructive behavior, is because they are not conscious of their own thoughts. One who is unconscious of his own thoughts, will automatically think about pleasant things, to suppress the unpleasant thoughts. And when one thinks about pleasant things (say, eating fastfood) one will be more likely to act out on his thoughts.
  7. I had this insight a while back regarding this: You start some RPG game with some character. The character is 20 years old. You assume your character was born someday in this game world. Another character in the game might even tell you that. You, the one playing the game, never witnessed your character being born. Nor did any programmer program the birth of the character. 'Real' life is the same.
  8. I'm so glad I live in the Netherlands
  9. Oh even better. Get a job and save as much money as you can, then transition to freelancing. Or even better, build a tiny house and go live somewhere with almost 0 housing costs, and do whatever you like to do. Maybe work 1 day a week and do enlightenment work the rest of the week. I wish someone gave me this advise (and me actually doing it) when I was still studying.
  10. @egoless what percentage of your income can you save each month? A financial buffer helps a lot when trying to transition from a job to freelance. Do you work fulltime? Maybe you can go to 3 or 4 days and spend the other days freelancing, or doing research.
  11. @egolessI am working towards that lifestyle for the last 5 years. I gradually became minimalist. And I quit my job last year, now I'm freelancing. So I can check off point 1 & 5. When I have saved enough money in the future (not getting any mortgages anymore!) I will buy a big land somewhere, build a house. It will be in nature as much as possible, and with enough solar panels for power. Also I will grow my own food and chickens. Maybe add some aquaponics. So that would be point 2, 3 and 4. But also, i'm doing consciousness work for the last 5 years. And an important thing i've learned is that everything is good as it is now. My current living place is in the middle of a busy city, with lots of noise and bad air, and no room for farming. But I'm ok with that. If I die here, I'm ok with that. But being ok with something doesn't mean no action. The trick is to accept life as it is right now 100%, yet still move yourself to a better life.
  12. Yeah your own brain is a distraction in itself. I still have this problem when working and then all of a sudden I want to check out some website (including this one). I removed all bookmarks to these kinds of websites, and you can also remove apps from your phone, like Facebook. Of course you can still look them up, but it's less easy.
  13. @ajasatya Ah yes of course. Hitler.
  14. @Jhonny name ONE thing you like to change about yourself. For example: You want to run 5km every day. To get the habit going, start small and easy. Take a 5 minute walk every day. Start with something ridiculously easy. Then build from that. One habit at a time.
  15. Turn off all possible notifications. Worked wonders for me.
  16. He's an interesting character indeed. But in real life, is it possible someone can be so patient, strategic, long-term thinking, and yet still be evil? Those qualities should make one see the flaws of his own goals.
  17. Right now I can't really do that much but I try to infect him with my own calmness, awareness and presence. My wife is a little more 'normal' than me, but I can see that I'm slowly affecting her as well. So the effect on a child should be even more. He is a really good sleeper and seems to learn quickly. This might be because of our calmness. But can't know for sure of course.
  18. I'm not really doing that much right now, as he cannot talk yet. I do however try to be as present as possible when i'm around him. When he starts to talk and ask questions I will always be honest, and teach him that he is not his body. Which is natural to children because they always start out referring to themselves in the third person.
  19. I'm conducting that experiment on my 1,5 year old son. So far so good.
  20. Don't be discouraged. Accept it the way as it is. It sounds like a great opportunity for growth.
  21. @Joseph Maynor This is how I see it: YOU are absolute infinity, looking through the lens of a character, named Joseph. Everything you perceive, is a dream. You are right. Every other being doesn't exist. But then, how am I, reacting to you? Well, I am absolute infinity as well. Everything I perceive is a dream. Other beings don't exist. I and YOU are the same absolute infinity. And since we are absolute infinity, every reality possible exists (however still a dream), including all the ones of all the characters in your dream. I hope this makes any sense to you.
  22. I've read this book the past few days and my reaction was: WOW! I've spend years trying perfect my own energy levels. And while i'm doing quite well right now, I never could find many new things in my life to improve it even more. This book alone gave me a list of 20 (easy) bio-hacks which I'm gonna try out to my life.
  23. I did it once a day on average. Looking back now I know for sure I was an addict. I'm trying to quit it for 7 years now, and i'm still not completely free from it. Have you checked out NoFap? It helped me out a lot!
  24. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. Trying to beat the porn addiction got me on the self-help path, and got me to the point where I am now.
