Its funny how Christians hate totalitarianism yet the Christian God is the most totalitarian of them all, he ticks in the all boxes -Requires 100% obedience -Obey or get tortured aka hell -Us and them, non-Christians are evil -A utopian society exists aka heaven -Always watching what you do

Leo says "Be a massive value provider!" Well how to provide value as a musician? Heres what I have come up with after some short contemplation... •Aural pleasure Learn what sounds good obviously, dont sell the sound of a fork scraping a plate, learn what good audio is. Know your basics. •emotional stimulation Whether youre selling excitement or sadness, learn how to do it well, what chords on the piano provide what emotion? emotion is super-addicitve if you can sell it right! •emotional comfort •inspiration If youre a good lyric writer, give them your story, make them feel like there is a bright future ahead, this will keep them coming back when theyre down! •Intellectual stimulation Give your listener a challenge, make them sit on the edge of their seat, be bold, dont give them lullabies, be bold! Dont be afraid to be abrasive in your sounds, chords or whatever it is. •novelty stimulation Give them something they havent heard before. People love novelty! Make sure its not too unfamiliar though, keep one foot in the boat. •teach Teach them something new, some new way of making music (Obviously more for people who are musicians) •image/identity make them feel like theyre part of a cool movement, make them feel like theyre listening to some cutting edge stuff, make them feel smart! people love feeling smart •social bonding Make sure you fulfill atleast 50% of this, one without the other usually falls flat.

Since taste is subjective I cant really say much else, if youre a listener that requires more complexity then maybe jazz-fusion, technical death metal or even classical is more for you. I however find that a song doesnt have to be complex to be good, and overly complex music can be shit too. But to say Arcade Fire arent masters at arrangement you would be fooling yourself.
-
Its not just about the chords. There are hundreds of factors that make this a song that works. How about the constant changing of time signatures? Or the fact that the singers range goes from practically whispering to belting, in a totally natural way over the course of the song? Or the complex lyrics?

Billboard 100 is very Orange. Its all about following formulas to the tee, same trap sound all the time, same type of singing, its very scientistic and boring, "if it works, we have to do it over and over, milk that cow".

Im not very big on hit songs, Im more of a deep cuts kind of guy, but I do know that learning rules helped me enjoy my own music more and helped me express myself better. Balance.
-
I would say you can use both tried and true methods but also... what you love somebody will else will love so you dont have to follow somebodies elses rules to the tee. Genesis made a 23 minute song called Suppers Ready and thats one of my favourite songs so... I dont like to tie my self down to these "how to make a song in 10 minutes using bla bla" formulas and videos either. I think theyre fake, overtly marketing tricks and clickbaity.
-
True... quite paradoxical... Someone will always get left behind despite good marketing, its a gamble. My post was more intended as a guideline, success is never guaranteed, you might die tommorrow.
-
Relatively speaking thats true, if you listen to death metal and buy all the records of your favourite artist thats because you value your image as a death metal fan and because you love the way the music makes you feel. Is it high consciousness value? Personally I wouldnt say so... But you cant say it doesnt sell. @Thought Art Arcade Fire is one of the most "value for your money" bands I have ever seen haha. Their live show was the best one I have ever been to. Really thoughtful and authentic band.

Well, the question may seem stupid if youre not a musician but when youre the one who is going to provide that value it is very important. Can you answer me why emotion from music is important to you? Do you actually know that? What is it about it that is soooo important? Its just sound right...?! How can sound create feeling??!! Isnt that weird?? Btw, Im sure if you contemplated "Why is shelter important?" You would find some pretty damn cool insights.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

I know! There are so many weird samples in that album, The Devil Is In The Details sounds like some satanic affirmation brainwashing haha! Yeah MHTRTC is my favourite too. Dont forget to check out their EPs too, A Beautiful Place Out In The Country and also Hi Scores is great! Ive never listened to Tycho... maybe I will give him a shot! Me too! Definitely something spiritual about their music, it opens up a portal to nature, for sure, its like musical animism.

Boards Of Canada is my favourite duo of all time. ❤️ Highly influential. They just make me appreciate the beauty and mystery of nature, I dont know how they do it, their music has such infinite depth, you feel like you go back to some primordial blissful childhood state haha. Except for Geogaddi, that shit is eerie as hell.

Exactly! Thats why I love Ikigai, which you mentioned in your course, although you didnt use that term. What you love - What youre good at - What you can be paid for - What the world needs If you can combine all of those youre set. Ome without the other will always make you feel like youre lacking something, you can be good at computers and get paid for it but be miserable, you can be great at music but noones paying you for it which means youre not surviving well. @Matt Skinner Thats a great video!
-
Not my cup of tea. But I can see the value/niche and why its a good market for spirituality.
-
Tuvan throat singing? Chanting?
-
What music is that? Thats where Ikigai comes in... Ive listened to every genre of music like ever... over 10 years, and electronic is what I love. If I try to do something "new" just to "suceed" but my heart is not in it that will show and I will get bored quick. I dont think I have to reinvent the wheel or anything, just do something that stands out, silly example: Polka/Drum n Bass with Bulgarian Choir influences, you get the point. Good point, recently I have realized how important tools are for music, if you limit yourself you find new avenues, for example, in the 80s poor folks couldnt afford instruments so they use vinyl records and looped them with cheap drum machines... Tada... Hip-Hop!
-
Yes, of course, theres alot of possibility of mixing music with other avenues nowadays. Personally I use the Life Purpose to help me figure out my niche in music, Im not really into mixing it with other things, but of course the possibilities are endless. For example VR/AR music videos will be amazing when they get popular.

Everyday im always a little worried that I will get sick with cold, flu or some stomach ache , Im also obsessing over my heartrate, which Ive done for a few years... How can I stop being worried about my health? Im not an unhealthy person. I was severly sick alot as a baby so maybe its subconscious trauma. What do you think?
-
Thanks. Definitely will.
