How to be wise

Difference between cure and healing

2 posts in this topic

A cure is when you simply get rid of the entire health problem. For example, a surgery that successfully removes all the cancerous cells. In which case all the symptoms have ended.

Healing on the other hand, is a process that, whilst it works on the health problem, also inevitably changes every aspect of your life. Healing can even include death. For example, someone who is suffering from cancer and is doing healing can even die from that cancer. In which case, the healing journey continues even after death, onto the soul’s next reincarnation.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

Heal means literally to make whole, sort of like yoga means union. Cure comes from Latin curatus, past participle of curare "to take care of". Funny that we have the modern day connotations of the two words backwards as to their original meanings. Maybe the process of healing and curing and the finality of the process aren't different?
