Your Approach to Reading

Hello,

I would like to know your approach to reading.

What are some things that help you enhance the process? Also, how do you go about academic books/papers?

I am going to commence reading some really challenging, dense literature, and feel a little intimidated. 

Furthermore, any advice to improve retention? 

Hope some of you could share your strategies.

go very slowly and stop once a paragraph and write in 1-3 sentences without looking at the text what the paragraph is about. This is a method called active recall and will help you remember a lot.

 

Also take your time to look up and understand any complicated or confusing words you run into.
