Is it a good idea to do shadow work before pursuing awakening?

Is this a wise choice? 

I feel as though it would be a good idea to have a really strong grasp of contemplation as a practice, and shadow work to equip me for the serious psychedelic exploration that Leo talks about.

Shadow Work can/should be done be anyone, its fundamental for becoming a mature human being imo.
