Focusing on breath and diaphragmatic breathing

So my daily meditation habits have been horrible, so I shifted to something more "easy", in order to shift to daily meditation further on.

What I am doing now is belly / abdominal (diaphragmatic) breathing as much as I can (as @Nahm once told me is the way you should breathe),
and focusing on my breath during daily tasks.

Whenever a thought arises, I focus back on breath and the belly breathing.

My question was, does this carry any benefits if not backed by daily meditation habits / strong foundation?
