Infrastructure Mega Thread

2 posts in this topic

Lately I have been fascinated with optimizing my living space so that I can work with systems in order to get things done. Over the past few months, here are some of the systems I have created. Feel free to share your systems as well!

1.) I prepare my clothes for the next day and lay them next to my bed, so that when i wake up, i do not have to worry about "What should I wear?" (This is really a waste of mental energy IMO)

2.) I have a desk that is CLEANED properly (No extra items, only the essentials needed to work or study) In order to keep this desk clean, I clean up and organize things/put them back in their place once I am finished. This reset prevents procrastination. Also, the key with studying for me is setting aside 30 minutes minimum, and placing my phone on the charger in my closet, so that i cannot hear or see it! (Refer to the book Deep Work by Cal Newport for more info...)

3.) I placed a meditation cushion and seat next to my bed, where i can do SDS. This chair stays clean, and I place a timer on top of it so that i can record and document how long i was able to meditate. (A stop watch is 100x better than a phone, because the stop watch doesn't text you!)

4.) In terms of health, I have a big jug of water placed next to my bed, which is full at all times, so i don't have to leave my room in order to get water multiple times a day.

5.) I have placed a pen and a notebook in my car, so that if i happen to get an insight while driving, i can quickly note that for future reference in my common place book.

Key Takeaways

1.) Infrastructure is a lot more helpful than you think. It takes a lot of time in order to set it up, but once you are in the flow of a system, you feel amazing and things go by much more smoother.

2.) You would be surprised how much a little change in infrastructure could impact your day-to-day. Whether its taking your TV out and placing a book shelf, or removing all junk food and going to the health store once a week. These actions add up!

I hope that these were helpful :)
