The Fear of Truth

7 posts in this topic

Something I’ve noticed lately is that when talking with people, if I start to steer the conversation deeper, to get to the underlying often paradoxical and confusing territory that gets closer to truth, essentially shifting the conversation to a different more advanced perspective, that people seem to resist this fiercely in all sort of ways.

This is pretty frustrating, people will reject this level in all sort of ways: disagree without taking the time to understand, change topic, have an excuse they need to go do something, or forcefully grab onto their perspective and ignore what you’re saying.

I came to the conclusion this is probably because when you shift the perspective too radically people feel their world changing, as it shakes the foundations of their worldview & belief system, like a glitch in the matrix. So people seem literally unable to hear and or understand what you’re saying.

Have any others here had experiences like this, how have you dealt with the sense of isolation? Of being pulled deeper and finding a sense of liberation while others seem almost terrified of it. I’m guessing at certain levels you’ll be rejected by pretty much everyone?

It’s obvious. People are different. Some are intelligent, some are less intelligent. Stages of cognitive development varies widely between people.

For example, your grandma (probably) doesn’t need no skepticism and smart-assery and philosophizing about life . She wants simple answers and comfy bedtime stories. And that’s to be expected imo.

“God is the Alpha Omega .. the beginning-less  beginning and the endless end .
He is the first without start . He is the last without end . He is the manifest actuality ..nothing covers him . He is the most hidden essence  ..nothing can grasp him .. nothing below him or more subtle than him .The ego is the belief I’m separate from god . Because being god is too good to be true .No matter how dark it gets or difficult it gets ..no matter how long it is going to take .. my destiny is the infinite happiness and infinite joy and love as the best thing ever ..God .  “

-that’s a me .

That’s fair but theres a grey zone, what about friends for example. Do you find that you have many friends who can meet that depth, or have you just accepted that not many people want to go where you are?

My older brother is open minded and well-educated. But he is more atheistically minded and a materialist . I can discuss with him topics about the existence of god , religion, the origin of the universe. And such topics .

but if I talk to him about new agey things , he tell me these are pseudoscience and myths .
my mother  is completely stage blue and diehard religious and very closed minded to anything above that level .

again , this simply boils down to people's stage of cognitive development. Which depends on age , upbringing, education, etc .

I see, so essentially you’re saying you have to see & accept where people are at, and that you can’t get through to your brother, mother etc outside of what fits within their stage of development? Do you remember a point in time which this frustrated you, like that your brother dismissed something where you saw there was more to it than it might seem?

plenty of times . I did try to gather some of my family members and play Leo’s videos to them and expose them to advanced ideas . Their response was literally that this man is mentally ill  haha 😂.

i did indeed talk to my mother, trying to upgrade her primitive conception of what “God” actually is . But again she resisted thoroughly and she didn’t want to listen to me .
know who to talk with  and what to talk about with whom. And leave underdeveloped people alone . If , for example, your grandma is a stage blue believer in a separate God , then talking her out of this belief might confuse her and do her more harm than good .  Let her have peace of mind and serenity.

Think about your own experience with seeking Truth.  Have you been rewarded for it?  Has it made you popular, wealthy, secure, or even safe?  If it has, I bet it's only after you've suffered and put a lot of effort into it.  There is no obvious and immediate practical benefit to acknowledging that your family and community is brain-dead.  Most people are likely taught, and learn well, to steer their minds away from such considerations, as they have been given good reason to fear the truth.  Even worse, the farther down these diverted paths they tread, the more painful it becomes to change course.  There's no dopamine in it for them to acknowledge that they've been living somebody else's lie, never mind that they may have become somebody else's lie when having children and influencing over others.

Nevertheless, I believe that awakening is built into us from the foundation.  I've read that having just one truly benevolent role model can change a child's life, even if everything else around them is a disaster.  Society's somnambulation maintains itself through the active prevention, exclusion, and destruction of such singular counter-examples.  But all they have on their side is inertia, which is powerful to be sure, but blindness and ignorance can't even save itself from itself.  Problems caused by blind ignorance will only be made worse by more blind ignorance;  problems caused by awakening will be solved by awakening further.

Knowing how to fight ignorance and seek truth is a beginning to awakening, but it's not all there is to it.  How do you rate your benevolence?  Are you kind, considerate, thoughtful, and full of good will when you approach others?  Many people are much more sensitive to this than whether something is true or false, and are much more amenable to well-intentioned ignorance rather than a self-centered realism.  If you come to those others with a chip on your shoulder, they will recognize it for the burden it is and refuse to pick up their own.

Eventually, truth and benevolence converge.  The true pursuit of benevolence will eventually butt up against self-serving lies, so I suspect that anyone who pursues either truth or benevolence to the extreme will achieve both, and I believe that's where everybody can be met and understand each other.
