Being comfortable with being uncomfortable

5 posts in this topic

OUR STORY So Far ⬇️

Mental clarity: You have learned to quiet anxiety, boredom, and the constant need for external distraction.

Self-awareness: You can observe your emotions and mental habits without immediately panicking or reacting.

Emotional regulation: You no longer rely solely on other people or constant entertainment to feel okay.

How It Differs From Enlightenment

Not a permanent state: Comfort in solitude can come and go depending on your mood, stress levels, or life circumstances, whereas traditional definitions of enlightenment point to a lasting transformation of consciousness.

Still tied to the ego: Being at ease with your thoughts still happens within the mind. Spiritual traditions (like Buddhism, Advaita, or the concepts discussed via The Art of Living) often describe enlightenment as going beyond or dropping the constant stream of the mind entirely, rather than just getting along with it.

Interconnectedness vs. isolation: True awakening is rarely just about enjoying your own company in a room; spiritual frameworks emphasize a deep sense of universal empathy, compassion, and connection to all living things rather than withdrawing into personal peace.

I like this phrase .

“God is the Alpha Omega .. the beginning-less  beginning and the endless end .
He is the first without start . He is the last without end . He is the manifest actuality ..nothing covers him . He is the most hidden essence  ..nothing can grasp him .. nothing below him or more subtle than him .The ego is the belief I’m separate from god . Because being god is too good to be true .No matter how dark it gets or difficult it gets ..no matter how long it is going to take .. my destiny is the infinite happiness and infinite joy and love as the best thing ever ..God .  “

-that’s a me .

I would like to point out something very important. You are trying to feel ok but that is not letting your be ok unless you feel good. Emotions are tricky. I wouldn't recommend quieting anxiety or boredom. Finding a way to quiet them is typically done through ignoring and suppression even though it seems they go away, you are just numbing yourself to them. I recommend the approach of fully feeling into whatever emotion is present lowering the resistance to them to 0. That is the only way to accept all of yourself as you are including those uncomfortable parts.

I was feeling into fairly intense anxiety from Sunday until Wednesday. It actually feels quite comfortable sort of like sitting in a hot tub since I truly desire to experience it fully.

How are you going to have a lasting increase in your consciousness if you are doing stuff like choosing to avoid feeling an uncomfortable emotion? That is lying to yourself and convincing yourself that it is ok to be ignorant of how you feel.

I haven't gotten anyone to actually do this because they always complain they just can't stand feeling that way and refuse but it works for me. If you figure it out then let me know so I can know there is at least one other person that this works for haha.

That’s not what being comfortable being uncomfortable means. You can’t silence anxiety, boredom or any thing of the likes. These emotions or whatever thoughts are being felt are arising for you whether you like it or not. You can’t silence them or suppress them or stop them from arising. What you can recognise is that you are already the silence wanted.

You simply recognise the unwelcome visitors and give them no importance, rather you don’t feed into them you simply watch them arise and fall away all by themselves, you aren’t making them appear or disappear, you are simply the silent witness already at peace and free. This peace and freedom is never harmed. This peace and freedom is the perfect resting light of pure beingness in every moment infinitely for eternity.

The OP is not suggesting you choose to avoid feeling. Why have you chosen to use the word AVOID?

Nowhere in the OP does it mention anything about choosing to AVOID.
