Why Are School Shooters So Bad at Killing People?

They’re so ridiculously bad at it that it’s almost impressive. If you’re going to kill, at least do it with style and in numbers. If I had done it, I’d have reached at least 50 people before the cops put a bullet in my head or I disappear like Batman in a cloud of smoke grenades. But I’ve never understood how they can be this damn bad at it. It’s genuinely laughable.

Here's my theory.

School shootings are a lot to do with proving their own competence.

To go to that level to prove competence requires a history of lots of incompetence. So, its par for the course that they'd be incompetent at a mass shooting.
