Are men more interested in politics?

In almost every social situation I have been in, men will talk for longer and more frequently about politics than the women. I find women often get tired of the conversation sooner and change the topic sooner too. 

If this is true, do women's lack of interest in politics, when compared to men, result in less women in politics and thus society loses out from the value women could bring?

Since women make up half the population. It would make sense that half of our politicians be female. But if fewer women are interested in politics the inevitable result is that fewer women leaders will exist.
