EU law to fight gender pay gap

2 posts in this topic

The EU Pay Transparency Directive -- Its intended to fight the gender pay gap.

In short companies must be transparent about what they pay their employees. If the other gender earns more for the same work you can demand the same or you can sue the company.

Women often undersell themselves, because they dont demand as much, they dont get as much salary, even if their work is equal to mens. So its a legit point.

On the other hand I also know some workaholics and those are usually males. Women are usually more balanced (not neglecting the social domain). So if some workaholic males would outperform women but cant get compensated more for it that would be unfair as well. But thats my only big criticism.

They shouldn't calculate the difference as an average aggregates of incomes that all men make vs the aggregates of incomes that all women within that company make. If they calculate it correctly and take all the factors you've mentioned into consideration plus couple of others, and there's still unjustified difference that dissadvantages women or a particuliar individual women, then by all means that should be fixed.  But since this gender pay gap thing has always been massively overblown and most companies pay men and women exactly the same amounts (it's against the law to do otherwise), there won't be too much to fix, if we assume there's some rigour and good intentions being mantained while making this law. Which I doubt there is. But also, who cares really
