Why isn't it as simple as this?: 
Skeptical materialistic person ➔ "here, a psychedelic" ➔ boooom💥➔ okay I get it, there is God, I am God.

(For context, I've never tried a psychedelic before, so have mercy on my oversimplification, but I'm curious.)

But won't the mystical experience be enough to reconsider? won't it be chocking enough or overwhelming to a point where one changes their attitude towards truth?

It may, but often isn't.

A materialist is going to avoid tripping deep, tripping often, and will not have the tools to make sense of the experience.

It is so easy to dismiss a trip as just "that was some crazy scary nonsense, let me forget it".

I have so many questions, but it seems the best way to answer them is to try psychedelics.
