How to solve racism.

6 posts in this topic

How fascinating would it be to be able to encounter another species of humans like Homo neanderthalensis, Homo erectus, Homo habilis, Homo heidelbergensis, etc

And yet that's exactly what we have: we get to encounter different variations of humans everyday. How incredible and lucky are we?

We are all one species. There are no other human species alive today.

Racism may never die. Unless human nature has a radical change shift. Even if all were hte same race, there still have been and may be differences. White Americans fought each other during the Civil War. Russians and Ukrainians are both white.

Appreciate the answer @Shermaningeorgia. You bring up good points. It's truly mind blowing how many excuses people come up with to hate each other. My favorite example of this ludicrousness is the hate fans have for fans of different sports teams from the same state or province! Great point you made.

Since this is a forum where we go deep into the the nuances and subtleties of language and ideas I will clarify my original post.  In no way am I suggesting one race is superior to another.

The interesting thing about species is that it's an arbitrary distinction. Take for example a Chihuahua and a great Dane. For all practical purposes they can't reproduce due to size, yet they are classified as the same species. On the other hand there are many types of salamanders, such as the Ensatina salamander species, that look almost identical to each other, and can breed with each other too. Yet these salamanders are classified as different species (the only distinction is slight color variation and a geographic barrier).

So my "radical" thought experiment is to temporary look at each other as different species. For us more cognitively developed folk this can open an interesting insight that can help appreciate each other. A developed person wouldn't be racist towards a newly discovered lost tribe of Neanderthals rather they would try and learn from them as much as possible and try and perserve them. I think forcing every human into the same category has its limits.

This line of thinking had helped me "own" our differences and not try to sweep them under the rug. In fact I don't think cultures want to be swept under the rug of "sameness" Infact that's what gentrification is, isn't it? This helped me appreciate other races and perhaps it can help others too.

Solve racism by understanding it as a psycho technology-there are tribal survival benefits from taking on racist ideology.

Racism vs non racism is often subject to environmental and genetic influences.

We need to create more ecosystems of pluralism, institute pluralistic values in our education systems, while at the same time making education a universal human right, especially for rural and impoverished peoples across the globe.

I should have clarified. When I said "how to solve racism" I ment on the individual level within ourselves personally. I'm not that arrogant to suggest that I have the answer for dispelling racism off the entire planet with one blog post. I also acknowledge that my method may only help some people and not everyone.

I would imagine it would be hard reflect on one's own individual racism. It would be emotionally painful:

This video would be a good start:
