What happened before this moment

 When only an observer remain and that the "memory" of self identity is detached from awareness.

It's not that it is hard to understand, it is that understanding itself is so clear and perfect that there is nothing left to be confused about.

Confusion & deception keep arising, just like this.

It becomes one state that you realize you were making up a story and were always sitting there on the frame you are on, bored making up a story about how you go to the current moment but never left it.
