Humans take ownership over actions of inanimate obects

5 posts in this topic

I was laying in bed and my mind start thinking about what I am doing. I am laying in a bed. Then I started thinking what does a bed do? It lays down.

Then I start to think what can a dresser do. Its drawers can open and close. When I open the drawers of my dresser I say I am opening my drawer when Im not doing it at all my dresser is.

When I am in a car I say I am driving my car. I am not driving I am sitting there the car is driving.

What can a window do? A window can open and close. When I open a window I say I am opening a window but Im not opening, the window is opening.

A light can turn on and off. When I want light I turn the light on, I take ownership over what the light is doing. When I throw the lightbulb on the floor I smash it but I am not smashing the light is doing the smashing, its an inherant quality of what a lightbulb can do.

When I water/grow my lawn I am not watering or growing my lawn. The water is watering it and the grass is growing itself.

I cant do anything to an object that it cant do. But take ownership over what it does, when I cant do it myself.

This is fucked up on so many levels as I am not actually doing anything, everything else is doing it and I am pretending I am doing it.

@Hojo What you are describing is the way typical Americans relate and speak about their interaction with an object. In Japan, for instance it is quite a different mindset and communication relates more directly to the state of the object rather than the person's action being asserted on it.

"When window was opening" vs. "When I was opening the window"

When the secret is revealed to you, you will know that you are not other than God, but that you yourself are the object of your quest.

@cetus If i were to talk to a japanese person and I told him to make his bed dance would he know what to do? Or would he be completely bewildered at what I am saying?

What do they say when they pick up their mattress and move it around?

If I set up a mannequin in their from room and they opened the door and they got scared from it would they say the mannequin scared me?

They would be just as bewildered as I am.

@cetusIf someone told you to make your bed dance you would have no idea what they are talking about? That sounds dishonest. Clearly you would stand it up and rock it back and forth.Essentially dance with it.
