Was the 2014 Maidan Revolution in Ukraine a CIA coup d'etat? 

I have no idea and I'd like to know what do you guys think.

My personal opinion it is that it wasn't a coup but rather a genuine popular revolt. Because Ukraine has always been culturally in touch with the west and because the Ukrainians saw how prosperous western countries like Germany, Uk or France are, they choose to follow a path of European integration. But I'm also convinced that the CIA and the EU deeply sponsored pro Western propaganda in Ukraine. But it wasn't a coup d'etat in the sense that the west installed it's puppet regime there. For me it was like 70% popular revolt and 30% western backing and propaganda that swayed the Ukrainian population away from Moscows grip.

No, it was not some CIA operation. You have to move away from conspiracy level framing of these things if you actually want to have a deeper / truer understanding. 

Could you say there is perhaps some degree of political “lobbying” or influence due to osmosis, where Ukraine is situated between Russia and EU? Sure.

Also, don’t forget they overthrew their democratically elected leader. Also don’t forget there was a large Russian minority in Ukraine that did face democratic suppression. Also don’t forget John McCain flew there to make a speech. Imagine if something happened like this in USA’s backyard? They would have started a war yesterday. Cuba is still facing sanctions decades after the Cold War.

I just wanted to understand how this conflict is from the Russian POV. And what better way to understand it than delving deep into the very conspiracy that started the war. Russia started the war in 2014 precisely because they 100% believe that the Maidan Revolution was a coup d'etat. Putin told that dozens of times in his interview with Tucker Carlson. Putin genuinely believes that the current leadership at Kiev is the consequence of the 2014 coup d'etat.

Also it is plausible since the CIA has done over a dozen of coup d'etats since the end of WW2. So it is not entirely out of the question. But since the maidan revolution lasted like 3 or 4 months of continuous protests and street violence, since the sitting president left the country on his own volition, I doubt that the Maidan Revolution was actually a coup.
