Which are the next countries to get nukes? (uncertain times)

3 posts in this topic

Uncertain times.

We see with the Saudi/Pakistan pact. Of course Pakistan has nukes.

The US is becoming not very reliable. We see with Qatar and Europe, Ukraine, Russia etc.

The US is basically squeezing their allies for protection money. Like Japan, South Korea, Europe, Arab states.

So i think more countries will want to hedge their bets.

Thus far those countries have nukes.

United States — 1945

Soviet Union / Russia — 1949

United Kingdom — 1952

France — 1960

China — 1964

India — 1974

Pakistan — 1998

North Korea — 2006

Israel — ~1960s–1970s (unacknowledged)

Latent Nuclear Power countries

Japan

Germany

South Korea

Italy

Canada

Australia

Sweden

Brazil

Argentina

Netherlands

Switzerland

A few of those countries had programs to develop nukes but dropped it.

I think next up is Japan and i hope maybe Scandinavian countries and or Netherlands for further nuclear deterrence.

I asked GPT about Poland and Switzerland. (because Poland is building a strong army and is very cautious when it comes to Russia)

Poland is not usually classified as a latent nuclear power the way Japan, Germany, or South Korea are.

Here’s why:

Poland does not have a domestic nuclear energy program yet (its first nuclear power plant is still under development, planned for the 2030s).

It lacks large-scale enrichment or reprocessing facilities, which are key to nuclear weapons latency.

However, as an advanced industrial country with strong scientific capacity, Poland could theoretically develop such a program if it decided to pursue it.

So, in short:

Switzerland = yes, latent nuclear power (historically and technologically).

Poland = not generally listed as one today, but has the potential in the long term.

👉 Do you want me to prepare a tiered list:

Strong latent powers (like Japan, Germany, South Korea).

Moderate latent powers (like Canada, Australia, Switzerland).

Potential latent powers (like Poland, Brazil, Argentina)?

And then of course Ukraine who had nuclear weapons in the soviet era and gave them up with the Budapest memorandum. I’m sure they’re kind of working on it.

And Iran where Israel just attacked their scientists and facilities. They say they don’t want nukes but it would make sense for them to want them obviously.

Would be wild if Japan gets nukes.

And then first thing they do is just nuke two US cities.

”Revenge i mean whoopsie sorry my fault”
