Psychedelics are not a replacement for Mindfulness Meditation

Psychedelics can make you more neurotic and less mindful even if they might permanently shift your consciousness towards less egoic engagement.

 

Mindfulness practices remain essential even after exhaustive psychedelic breakthroughs and integration, if one wants to avoid egoic traps and self-deception.

I agree with you. I'm curious what your mindful practice looks like? I practice Zazen (seated meditation) and Kinhin (walking meditation) for about one hour every day. I embrace the silence and stillness. I can hear and feel it.

Meditation builds a kind of discipline that psychedelics don’t. It is also very relaxing for the physical body/nervous system. It has a kind of practical value of lowering stress, making your mind sharper, which can ripple into other parts of your life, even survival pursuits.

I think if you’re really passionate about waking up you should try both to gain a wide range of benefits and also test anecdotally what leads most to your goal.  But if awakening is not too priority for you, more a side quest then I don’t see wrong in pursuing the easier route (psychedelics, although they might be harder in the sense of needing to relinquish resistance because they’re more radical immediately). Because at the end of the day awakening seems to be about breaking down the ego, and both meditation and psychedelics aid in that, but I’d say psychedelics are more direct at attacking the ego structure, so it’s not dumb to only go for that when you prioritize using your precious  time in other ways
