An easy way to break out of the Western epistemological bubble

3 posts in this topic

In this post about TV in other countries, Leo does what he does best and highlights epistemological bubbles that both foreigners and the native population is blind too.

Leo argues that breaking out of one's own epistemological bubble is the hardest part. However I claim there's an easy way for Westerners to begin escaping the Western bubble: simply realize that most Westerns already reject the worldview of about half their own population.

Just like Russia, N.korea, and Iran hate the US, liberals and conservatives hate each other with almost equal ferver. It's easy for a liberal to break free from the conservative epistemological bubble and vice versa. Yet by doing so the liberals break out of at least some of their own country's bubble.

Now it's just a matter of extending that to the other half of the country that you identify with to see your country as foreigners do.

I don't think it's so easy. There are MANY biases and much culture that all Americans have in common regardless of their political views. Politics is a relatively small aspect of culture.

The best way to see that is to go live in a 3rd world country like Colombia or Nigeria or Egypt.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

True. I should say that my point applies to the political epistimological bubble then only. Thanks for clarifying.
