TV In 3rd World Nations

By Leo Gura - September 4, 2025

It is eye-opening to study the TV media from 3rd world nations. It’s terrifying how self-biased, self-absorbed, and insulated it is. But then you have to go one step deeper and realize that your own culture’s media is like this too when viewed from a neutral outside frame.

Study the local TV media of North Korea, China, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. It should leave you shell-shocked. These represent kinds of epistemic bubbles. By exploring these bubbles you get a sense for just how limited and self-biased the views of all cultures and peoples are. Imagine how limited your mind would be if you didn’t know English and grew up in one of these 3rd world TV media bubbles and never learned any of the concepts from Actualized.org. Yikes! Yet that is most of the world.

But the hardest thing of all to see through is the epistemic bubble of American culture and media, because it is so polished, well-produced, and globally dominant. You can escape North Korea or Iran, but will you escape America?
