Several European nations openly opposed the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. The most notable ones were:

 

France – President Jacques Chirac strongly opposed the invasion, calling instead for continued weapons inspections.

Germany – Chancellor Gerhard Schröder firmly rejected military intervention.

Russia (not EU, but part of Europe) – Vladimir Putin also opposed the war, aligning with France and Germany.

Belgium, Luxembourg, and Austria – opposed military action without a U.N. mandate.

Greece – officially against the invasion.

Sweden and Finland – critical of the war and emphasized diplomacy.

 

 

On the other hand, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Poland, and several Eastern European countries supported the U.S.
