You tell me.

I think you understand my argument. Whether it applies to you, I can’t say, but I still find it valuable to point out, even if only as a reminder to myself.

Yep, that's what that was (me saying some people need to say "it's both" more); a pointer, a reminder. And that's all we really do here (and what you did as a response to me). Most people have actually heard or understand most of the points that are being made time and time again. It's just that we are fighting the limiting scope of relevance by reminding ourselves of things we find important. And that involves presenting the counterpoint, like you did (and like I did with "it's both" to some statement), and ironically like I'm doing now by pointing out how both of the points we made fit together. Because as a pointer (when applied situationally, contextually), I don't disagree with the statement "draw more lines in the sand" at all.

Baudrillard is already anticipating this mode of communication - or rather, non-communication - largely driven by mass media and the internet, when he says: “We are no longer in a society of spectacle, but in one of simulation, where mass media, instead of creating communication, impose a one-way transmission of messages, without response, without feedback, and thus without responsibility.”

Nonetheless, I’m not that cynical. Sometimes, even in this non-communication, a real spark emerges - where both the messenger and recipient recognize an abyss in the other, an alterity so radical that it’s precisely here that the truth of Jesus Christ, as loving one’s neighbor, can manifest. Not through understanding or grasping the other’s subjectivity, but in recognizing its very impossibility - an impossibility that nonetheless participates in the absolute subjectivity of Spirit.

“Did you ever say Yes to a single joy? O my friends, then you said Yes to all woe as well. All things are chained and entwined together, all things are in love; if ever you wanted one moment twice, if ever you said: ‘You please me, happiness! Abide, moment!’ then you wanted everything to return!” - Friedrich Nietzsche
