What are the systemic implications of *blank*?

2 posts in this topic

Here's one for you aspiring to Tier 2.

When you're doing a new action, or you are reacting in a new way. Take a few moments and refect by asking yourself:

"What are the systemic implications of this new action or reaction?"

We personal development nerds are biased to be different and do things differently, but many of the mainstream things are quite good because they passed the time test or they serve a need.

Time testing a thing is actually observing how the specific thing reacts and influences the complex systems that it is a part of by testing it over and over in different ways. For example the two genders that 99+ percent of us use. When you reach Green, you start wondering: "Why the hell just two???" Want to reach Yellow? Then you also have to ask: "Why more than two? And why it worked like this for thousands of years?"

I am very tempted to say: "Why do people do this thing? It seems stupid." For example cutting themselves.

As I got wiser and older, I started to also ask: "What are the advantages of this stupid thing people are doing?" Ah they cut themsleves because the emotional pain is unbearable and they need to distract themselves with physical pain.

I’ve never cut, but I do have eczema and have moments where if I’m extremely stressed out will start attacking myself by scratching my skin vigorously. Some marks left by the scratching eerily resemble cut marks.

The point I’m making is eczema is out of my control. No amount of self-control or  willpower can take away eczema. There are treatments, but not cures.
