You could understand something right or wrong, but at the moment of understanding it, you know that you understood it,

Understanding is not becoming more or less conscious, it's a different matter, though could lead you to experience shift of state in your consciousness,

Understanding is not becoming aware of new information you didn't know,

Imagine you have bunch of dots in a paper and you connect the dots to come up with a recognizable pattern, those dots could be information, and the pattern is understanding of it, though it's in your mind, that pattern could be seen and understood differently in another person 🤔

So what's understanding itself.

The experience of understanding something is satisfying thou you could understand something wrong doesn't matter, it's satisfying to understand something,

It's like happiness, when do something to get happiness and you smile or laugh, you feel good, you feel uplifted, understanding feels uplifting and satisfying!

Understanding is creation. The urge to understand alongside the urge to explore stems from the root urge to create. Your urge to create because God creates all the time.

When you understand something, you are able to see it, create it within your mind. Your mind expands, and within, you can hold the object you have understood. Creation entails setting up of biases, boundaries, limits, structure and relationships among the various distinctions within the object. This is the exact process when understanding something.

Understanding feels liberating, it feels free, because you create. Creation is liberating. The more you create/understand, the larger you are. The more you can escape your previous frame of reference. The cosmic movement towards God and dissolution in God is what fuels the urge to create.
