  1. Interesting, very interesting, I haven't heard of this guy until now. Watched both videos. I don't keep up with science or technology too much and I don't watch the news, so most of this was "news" to me. My impression of him is that he's completely driven. I don't think it's for money or power (could be wrong), perhaps status, but I suspect he's brilliant and thats what drives him, he probably has tons of ideas coming to his mind so quickly that he just doesn't have enough time in the day for them all. Reminds me of the movie, I think it was called Phenomenon with John Travolta. Where he had a brain tumor and he had all these genius problem solving ideas coming to him at lighting speed and didn't know what to do with them. So, I guess it's like any genius type, whether it's math, science, music, art, writing...they are "driven" by the universe. If he wasn't meant to be doing what he's doing, he wouldn't be doing it.
  2. @Edvard Of bringing high conscious people.
  3. I sympathize with your dilemma, but you won't get enough REM sleep. It takes 90 minutes to get into REM sleep. You cycle longer and longer the more hours you are asleep. For example the first cycle is only for 10 min., but the last REM cycle is about an hour.
  4. So, I would ask what are you referring to when you say "everything" is a waste of time (duties, responsibilities, social gatherings?) and what are the "things" you really want to do? And as, @Prabhaker said, why do you feel you need/want solutions?
  5. Why do you isolate? Is it because of anxiety or wanting to be alone or something else?
  6. Typically, you want to seek pleasure or avoid pain, which form your preferences, likes and dislikes. These over time, form mental tendencies and vasanas, then thoughts arise within the mind that are in accordance to the desire/fear patterns.
  7. "The self is often said to reside within the hridaya, the heart of one’s being, or to be recognizable within one’s heart. While the literal meaning of the word hridaya is “heart,” however, the term should be understood as referring to buddhi, the intellect. The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad states, “The purusha [the self], which is identified with vijnanamaya (intellect) and is in the midst of the organs, is hridyantajyotihi, the [self-effulgent] light within the heart” (4.3.7). In his commentary on this mantra, Shankara clarifies the meaning of “heart” as follows: Heart is primarily the lotus-shaped lump of flesh; here it means the intellect, which has its seat in the heart." ~Ted Schmidt
  8. Apprehending your beingness/Self/awareness is the easy part. You must recognize "this" is YOU, some do and some don't. The hardest part, imo, is staying there, seeing from this perspective and meeting each apparent phenomenal moment as your Self (awareness).
  9. @Quantum Mike The OP was very clear that he was describing an analogy. They are sometimes very effective in understanding this stuff.
  10. True, except it's not nothing, it's "no-thing", as some-thing can not come from/be created out of "nothing". As for the analogy, as long as you understand the no-thing-ness "permeates" everything, including the orb. Also, the orb is an appearance and therefore only "apparently" real. It is said that this whole universe is but a "speck" of the infinite Being. If this is true, then your analogy is correct, imo.
  11. My first Self-realization was mind blowing! No thought, at first, then thought came back and said, holy hell that's what I AM!" ... So, I don't know if your experiences have been partial or maybe your reaction is just more natural, like okay and...
  12. A rose on my ankle when I was 24. Never wanted a tattoo, but hubby wanted one bad, but said he wouldn't get one without me. So, I was like what the heck! Hurt like a bitch...lol

  14. I did not see Leo's reply when I posted mine or I wouldn't have posted it, but I'll leave it as is.
  15. @Youssef This might be dissociation- "dissociation is any of a wide array of experiences from mild detachmentfrom immediate surroundings to more severe detachment from physical and emotional experience. The major characteristic of all dissociative phenomena involves a detachment from reality" "Dissociation is commonly displayed on a continuum.[5] In mild cases, dissociation can be regarded as a coping mechanism or defense mechanisms in seeking to master, minimize or tolerate stress – including boredom or conflict.[6][7][8] At the nonpathological end of the continuum, dissociation describes common events such as daydreaming while driving a vehicle. Further along the continuum are non-pathological altered states of consciousness." My advice, stop all practices for now. Engage in life fully 100%. Force yourself, if necessary. Until things get back to normal. Then, once rebalanced, take it slow... do only 10-15 min sessions in the beginning, see how you feel and advance from there.
  16. @jimrich Give it a rest... you changed your mind and now have no ego. Perfect, works for me. Although, I think you're deluding yourself.
  17. Hmm, interesting. You've written a "lot" on this thread about healthy ego's, unhealthy ego's, boundries to maintain your ego, honesty for the ego, but now your saying.... nope, no ego.
  18. Good, here's another, about a gold ring. Say gold was you, awareness. Gold is gold regardless of what shape or form it takes, right? So, gold is shaped into a ring. Is it a ring or is it gold? From first glance someone may say, it's definately a ring, not noticing what it's made of. It's actually just "appearing" as a ring, but tomorrow could be melted down to liquid. The gold remains the same, only the shape it "appears as" has changed. So, gold is both the substance and whatever shape the substance appears as... There's also the clay and pot analogy, but it basically the same as the gold ring analogy. Yes, it was an awakening "experience" and all experience ends eventually. That's why Vedanta advocates Self-knowledge (Self with a capital S means Brahman/awareness). Once the knowledge is "firm" it can not be negated. Then, there's a shift in identification. Yep, that's basically how we become deluded, endless stories. It's part of the game. Cover ourselves up and play hide and seek. Awakening glimpses are like playing peek-a-boo.
