  1. Title basically, is there such thing as absolute beauty? whats the highest notion, definition of beauty? Is it really just subjective or is there some objectiveness to it? What are the aspects that contribute to something being beautiful? Ya know the deal.
  2. So i've been into OBE's and other stuff recently, and never have i seen a single video from leo related to this other than his 5-meo experience. Could you please make a video about the pineal gland? does it really produce DMT? if decalcified, does it facilitate astral projections? maybe even a separate video on OBE's ? why havent you posted about most of this stuff? I think it would make for a good video. -Scar
  3. Hey, today i want to present to you an idea that was passed on to me by watching various TED talks and other videos from Simon Sinek, if you haven't seen him, i STRONGLY recommend to watch his stuff. So the affirmation i made in the title is quite the strong one, and it applies to many facets of life, so what is it? First, an example: (taken from him) Why is apple so succesful? there are many other computer and tech companies out there, so why time and time again has apple proven to be more creative and innovative? Well, lets compare 2 hypotetical advertizements from apple and another tech company. Apple: We believe that intelligence is everything. And how do you get it? nowadays, internet. Introducing: apple wifi. apple wifi is the fastest wifi youll ever get, it counts with this and that benefits, and its done by this experts with this new technology. Other company: Ever had slow internet? well, not anymore! with our new fast-as-heck wifi you will get all the info you need in no time! no more waiting for the page to load! whats the difference in this two? well, lets differenciate 3 parts from this ads: "why" "how" "what" now, 100% of companies know WHAT they are doing, its obvious. in the case of this ads, the second knows WHAT its selling, and maybe even how they make it, but they have no clue WHY. If you look at the apple ad, you are inmediately presented with a belief, a why for the product. This is SO VERY POWERFUL. quote taken by SImon: "People dont buy what you do, they buy why you do it". You have to start with the why. In his talk, simon gives biological reasons of why having the why present at all times gets you going, customers buying your products, your employees happy with their company because they have a goal to work towards. Now this is all very focused towards busieness, but if you've got through self-help content before you can start seeing the potential of this. Leo says that lack of purpose is the number one reason why people arent fulfilled, hate their jobs, and never become the best version of themselves. Its simpley because they have no reason to do the changes. OF COURSE its REALLY important to have a vision, on your company, on yourself, on ANY GOAL YOU HAVE you MUST have this 3 step process. Now, its is very important that your why goes FIRST. as explained in his talk, this gives you a sense of security, of continuety, and it is chemicaly made that way. If you think of a tribal group of thousands of years ago, they had to survive on nature only, so anything that didn't serve a purpose was quickly discontinued, and that still works that way, if you try to go to the gym just because you are told to, you will fail, you wil miss days, and you won't put the effort necessary for completion. Another point i want to touch on is leadership, merging this concept with another talk of his about leaders, and how a LEADER is the guy who is willing to put TIME and EFFORT in others when they need it the most. This is also chemicaly strengthen because in the wild, the alpha has to worry about others for the whole crowd to survive, and its no different in current times. By applying the "why" strategy, you can improve leadership in many ways, say, in a company, by letting your co-workers know their goal, or by making them feel safe, by looking out on them to the very edges of the company and the very noobish of employees, the company survives, and thrives. If you feel like your workers have your back you feel better, and you watch the back of others, making it into a cycle. This can also apply for self growth, for addiction for example, the last step of the 12 step program is to commit to help another addict. This reinforces the cycle, helping everyone. The human species is a SOCIAL one, so all mechanisms by wich social behaviour is enhanced, will get passed on and made stonger. I'm sorry if i really didn't explain this as good as Simon, im no public speaker. I found a lot of value on his talk and wanted to both share it with you, and give you my thoughts on how it could apply to self growth. Go watch his talks and you will probably get deeper understanding. Thanks for reading til here, have a good one! His talks: The new generation problem and solution, and why innovation is on an all time low: Leadership and both tribe and company dynamics: Leadership on a more personal approach: There's more but i think this are his top 3.
  4. Technology is a double-edged sword. It gets us to the moon, it kills millions. It helps us "communicate", It makes us dumber. Once i heard a quote it went a bit like this: "Science only discovers keys. We choose what doors to open, The rockets that we used to carry nuclear weapons, we later used to first get to the moon". I have a friend that lived in the countryside. (He is coming back to the city this week, though.) While living there, he was in a terribly bad financial situation (we are both 15 btw) and he didn't have internet most of the year, only in his phone he rarely even used for social media. We are very similar, with related interests on self-growth and existencial wonder. Thing is, we are also different. I am pretty much addicted to the internet, youtube, videogames, porn. He isn't. He has found his passion (parkour), He excercises regularly, etc. Even though we have almost the same theoretical knowledge on how to live life, he had it almost better off than me because he didn't have internet, so it was harder for him to get addicted (thing he kind of was when he lived here.) The point im trying to make here is: Should we quit internet? should I quit it? Maybe i should just go cold turkey on most of my addictions by pulling off the cable. Now that my phone is broken, plus this potential change, my life could almost get a 180 degree turn, should i do it? Also, is today's internet, media, etc, bad? or just what we make of it, like in the quote? I really want you people's opinion on this. (share your stories btw)
  5. Today we live in a very technologically advanced world, and that brings both very positive and negative activities. Addction for once, say, for videogames, is one i am currently dealing with. A postive one would be meditation, having existed for milenia but now being made "main-stream". The point of this post is for everyone in the forums to post any kind of app, software,or anything that can be of any help for anyone, here are ones i am currently looking for (if you know any apps for this please post them below.) Addiction quitting Meditation Goal setting and Life organizers Inspiring/Motivational Also websites are appreciated. (Currently, i dont have my phone working, so PC software is extra loved. )
  6. a lil somethin "I finish talking to the girl. She loved me. I didn't. I did at first, she didn't then, tables turned. I am hit with the feeling i've had for around 2 years: Loneliness. I could have accepted her. I could've loved her. Even if i didn't truly feel anything, i could at least get a crutch. But i couldn't. My beliefs couldn't let me harm her more. I go outside. It's dark. My head explodes with thoughts and this SID, I talked about above. (Self-Induced depression). Overthinking, my cat comes and sits besides me."Hm. Animals are truly blessed, they don't have to put up with Systemic-loneliness, SID, Overthinking. They just are themselves, effortlessly" i think to myself. I sit there for a while. The world continues to move. I have to do the same. It's what we are born for: Adapting. The loneliness feeling doesn't really go away. It just lingers in the back of my mind, silent, lethal. I shall probably fall asleep. Final tomorrow. No studing. Have to keep up with a rigged and bad school system. Notes have gone down, not surprisingly. Again, the moon still shines. The trees still grow. The streams still flow. I, however, still have other thoughts in my mind.
  7. Meaning It really think a lot about meaning. Does our lives mean anything? Are we alone in the universe? Probably i should just go study existencialism. (obviously not a radical change of topics) Before i used to cherish science a lot. I was and still am subscribed to almost any good science channel in youtube, and i love learning new and interesting facts. Ever since i heard (not sure if it was leo) that science isn't all there is, and that in fact it could all be wrong, i take it all with maybe more than a pinch of salt. Once i watched this amazing Veritasium video: It really struck me and stuck with me. It was the first time i saw the almost spiritual and Emotional thoughts of a Scientific mind. That is something that most science really underestimates is emotion. And, this video talks about stuff i thought about, like the meaning of it all (I am 15 btw.)So thinking on it now is just like what i was before (If you can have a before im talking 1-3 years a go since well 15 years is not much time) A scientific-kinded guy with that sort of mindset. The overthinker, the nihilist, the Deeper. I of course still am that way, just with not that much science anymore. He almost answered the question i posed above, quote: "Wee may not have a meaning on the grand picture of the universe, but we make meaning ourselves with eachother" and now i start to doubt that. What do you think about that? If you know the answer to this ultimate questions, i´ll gladly read your answers.
  8. Hey, i was thinking on suggesting adding a quote option into profiles, so that under every comment or thread your quote appears. Not really hard to do and i think most people here have good quotes to share. Also, maybe add a suggestions section? feedback is important, you know?
  9. Nihilism may help, and i use MAY specifically. Try looking for a TV series called Rick and Morty. There, the underlying thought is how the universe doesnt really give a fuck about us, but we do, and how the mismatch drives Rick into depression and alcohol problems. Really good series in my opinion, and if you come to peace with that argument you can just say like "oh well, none of this will really matter on the grand scheme of things, so, it doesn´t really matter if i screw up". Just be careful with nihilism since it can turn against you if used in the wrong way, always use it towards your mistakes if possible-.
  10. Lo-Fi Music While listening to it i get various feelings. From calmness, to depression, to sleepyness, thoughtful. I would be very interested on some sort of FRI Scan of a brain while listening to this music, if you havent tried i highly suggest it. link to get you started: (all videos of that channel are good) In short, its a genre with no vocals, mostly repetitive rythms and constant beats and melodies, usually adding in a couple of voice recordings at the beginning or rain sounds, very good.
  11. Self-Inflcited "Depression" After a few months of me observing this phenomenon on myself, and even Identifying it on another person, i will try to talk about it here and describe it. So for myself, this happens randomly, but is usually triggered by sad music or situations in general. The thing is, i, knowing that depression IS self inflicted and that one can easily bump out of it (dont have it myself), sometimes, i just want to get kinda depressed. It is really weird, i start listening to sad music, closing windows so its all dark and just sit in bed and contemplate about bad stuff that happened to me or things that would make me sad while drinking a beer or using a vaporizer. It really is quite a weird experience even more when it happens at school, what i would do is just listen to music with a hidden earbud and not talk to anyone, not even friends when they where asking me if i was okay. It feels almost mindless, and it is even weirder when you know that depression brings nothing good. Sometimes i justify it thinking "well, you cant always have good times" or stuff in that sense. Am i the only one this happens to?
  12. Hey! i want this to hopefuly become somewhere i can write down thoguhts my mind is always thinking about. I am what i consider an overthinker, and yes i know thats bad but i try to justify it saying that is better stuff than what most people think about. Anyways, topics will be varied, and may extend in size. You can comment on any of them and tell me if i should even make them a topic on the forums. Anyway, Thanks for passing by!! (Also, this is an experiment on myself: I have been somewhat interested in writing, since i find it almost natural to write stuff and make rhymes, so i shall find if i want to take writing further with this journal)
  13. Also some stuff to note: -Some of you asked if i was not to deep on the addiction, sadly this is not the case, i have more than 3500 hours on steam, and i play basically 4-6 hours on schooldays and 10 hours + on weekends (that is if im not going outside with friends wich doesnt happen very often.) -Another thing to take into account is that even though i have a tough videogame addiction, i also have a youtube binge watch addiction, wich of course doesnt help. -I am getting a bit split-minded on what approach i should take, passive, active, cold-turkey, little steps, etc- probably all are useful i just cant choose right now. -Once i saw a video about habits and how if there are people related to it is easier to stick to them, say, if for going to the gym your friend picks you up. This is also true for my videogame addiction since i have a quite big "friend base" that probably will try to get me back onto videogames. Also i want to say sorry for dragging you all into this, i know you dont have to "fix" me but everything helps. Thanks again. P:D (Do you guys think it would be useful to delete all my games? or to download a time-limiting program?(if you know any please link me it, thanks.))
  14. Thank everyone foy your replies. Didn't think this post would get that far, and honestly i haven't checked back on the forums for a while. I think i've found my problem, and it is action taking. I've watched probably upwards of 200-400 hours of self help content, including videos, seminars, courses, books. And i cant do Jackshit with it. I just do what leo defines as "Mental masturbation" and man is it bad. It just kinda shows all the amazing stuff i could be doing but i just dont, and the videogames deal aint helping. I will try head on the solution leo gave (thanks btw). Today i watched the video on how to quit addiction and tried the 2 hour doing nothing deal, i managed to get 1 hour 20 minutes and i fell asleep because i was in bed. So long story short this is a little update i wanted to give, see if you guys have any idea on how to improve action-taking, since that and my will power are hitting insanely low levels. Thanks again for your responses.
  15. Ahhh, what a topic. Videogames, the thing i've known and done for years now, even though im only 15. (kind of what you would expect of a teen with too much free time.) I have spent around 3,000 hours + only on computer videogames, not counting console and other forms. Around 2 months back, i was trying to quit for good. Instead, my monkey mind decided to buy csgo, one of the most addicting games on steam. Only on the first week i threw away 100 hours. That is a lot of hours for just one week. i knew before i bought it that it would be a really bad "investment". I had that feeling in my gut, but i dismissed it. So, i had to learn the hard way: In the game, there are skins for weapons. This is a very known thing about the game, and it is very bad in my opinion. you pay real money for just colours. Still, people spend thousands of dollars in just one skin, and i made the mistake. I spent around 100 bucks in various things, and i got scammed for all of it 2 days ago. It was a sort of an awakening call, i decided to uninstall the game. So here i am, with a big question on my mind: how can i quit? after watching leo's video on addiction, i didnt really like it. I mean, i can meditate for upwards to an hour sometimes, and i still come back to play every day. I just dont know how to invest my time properly. I have a friend that left the city because of economic problems, and he has had no internet for more than a year. He surprises me. he is like the form of me that actually does the theory, thing i just get lost on. ( still trying to work on that.), he knows the basics of playing guitar, he knows around 10 songs, he plays the piano and continues his mastery practice on parkour. And im here doing mental and real masturbation, with no earning in return. It makes me wonder if i should just sell my computer or disconnect from the internet for a while. I really like him because he is into some sort of self developement, but more in the motivational way, the Jason silva or team fearless way. I like the practical stuff a bit more, but still fail to make it into reality. So, to sum up, i want to know if you guys have any storys surrounding videogames, if you managed yo quit how you did it, and how to become a better action-taker. I also just wanted to write my feels somewhere.
