Mixed signals? That's like you would say don't eat pizza with pommes. Eat only pommes because otherwise it leads to mixed signals and confusion. @cetus Dude you just use a much broader term of cognition. Not everyone here in this forum thinks that cognition already includes wisdom in it's definition (read back at the comments), the scientific term also differentiates here between cognition and wisdom and sees them as different concepts. While using the term moron it's pretty clear. So in this case moron is a good and simple word to describe it. By the way people who try to use big words are morons. Because they don't understand that big words often leads more to confusion. Keep it simple (and stupid).

Rather than stupid or moron." people think you can still have wisdom with substantial cognitive decline. Moron is a good word because a lack of wisdom is also included. Also the word moron is better to read for the eye because it's so commonly used.

@cetus because being retarded leads to bad decisions. Also with low intelligence you cannot enjoy many things (understanding movies, reading books, playing complex video games etc). The good thing is if you are old you have already built up so much in your life that you can hardly screw up. And in Germany you have a big social net in case you really screwed up. Still it is sad to watch that they cannot catch up with the new developement of the word and live more and more in their own small world where things will not change. They can be happy in them. But still "But I thought the topic was more about the elderly and new technology?" The topic is about how prevent becoming a 60 years old moron.

@cetus the word moron Leo used is an even more radical term, I used it so that everyone can see what I mean since even the word stupid let to confusion. Also Leo mentioned that 25 years old are morons so if I say people over 60s are morons, there is no age discrimination then in this context. I know it's not technically correct at all because morons have a genetically disease and people over 60 will not become morons. But what the word morons stays for is low intelligence combined with low wisdom. A good word to describe the average man over 60 (again, no offense, we all get old).

That's correct it should be not seen as a limit at all and there are many good examples of very intelligent and wise people over 60. But if you look at the average man on the street it's a bit sad to watch how they barely use their brain anymore. "It’s gross to me you called them dumb." I used the word stupid because in my observation it is a big decline. If I use softer words like cognitive decline this would not express how drastically I see the decline in cognitive function.

I don't want to be a slow thinker in my 60s. Wisdom? Nah..I feel wisdom correlates with intelligence, too. I met 60 years old peope with wisdom like an 8 years old boy. They were also slow in their head. Let's face the truth, You are probably stupid and you lack wisdom when you enter the 60s. @all over 60 years old people here - don't be offended. We all will be one day 60 and will be the same slow moron like you are. And of course there are exceptions.

@Ishanga in Germany no one of the 60 years old people were at war and most of them have still low intelligence. They had time enough to intellectualize.But maybe they had not much easy access like our generation I think this is a biological thing. The brain ages like every organ and the question just is how to help to slow down the process a bit.

@Lila9 no I dont expect them to be wiser. I see that they struggle with learning new things compared to younger people. In tech field sector this becomes more easy to see than in other fields maybe.

@Leo Gura Yeah you speak about a much broader intelligence. As a software developer I am focusing more on intelligence of learning new things, your working memory or also called fluid intelligence. And this sadly reduces the older you get.and by the time of 60 you can clearly see that in many people For example I work as a software developer and the people over 60 have a hard time learning new technology

No it's just an addictive behavior which may decrease your IQ but still a young man will probably highly outgrown an old man in every cognitive task on average. And please don't compare your 30s with the now 30s that's another topic. I compare young vs old here. Old men may have no stupid behavior but they have on average lower intelligence compared to young people and that's what I address here.
