I can understand why we should contemplate epistemic questions, because they make us question the beliefs that we already have. But why metaphysical questions. I mean, what's the point of contemplating what existence is, or why existence exists at all. How will that improve our lives?

@Joseph Maynor I find it easy to visualise goals such as starting a business or getting a relationship and so to motivate yourself. But it's difficult to visualise goals such as emotional mastery or enlightenment, because you can't actually see them. Any tips on how to use visualisations for goals that can't be easily visualised.

How to be wise replied to MiracleMan's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Meditation resurfaces and works through your old preconceived beliefs and thoughts, so you can think of this as the psychy cleaning itself up. -

@Shin if people where authentic to themselves, they would be a lot more like children than adults. -

Well, in the episode 'big picture of self-actualization' Leo said that metaphysical questioning was a big part of finding the truth. I want to start doing it, but I'm finding it hard to convince myself that it's that important. -

I've personally decided to stay away from psychedelics, because even though they could help my consciousness work, no proper health study has been done on them. They could have side effects which could appear years later in your life. My advice is, stick to meditation, self inquiry and other natural methods of raising consciousness. -
How to be wise replied to LaucherJunge's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@LaucherJunge if you become very deeply enlightened, you will be able to see the pure magic and absolute beauty of reality, and you will never become acclimated to them. You will always see every aspect of reality as if you are seeing them for the first time. -

I've been doing concentration practice for a while but I still don't know whether I have access concentration or not. How do I test myself whether I have access concentration?

I've been doing concentration practice for a while, but I'm not sure whether I have access concentration or not. Is there any way of testing whether one has access concentration or not.

You don't get something by 'doing nothing' in life. -

There is one thing about self-inquiry which I'm finding difficult to do. One part of the technique is that, when you identify with the sensations you're feeling, you say that you can't be that sensation because it is not 'constant'. However, it's very hard to actually feel that, because in the moment that you're feeling the sensation, it feels like it is 'constant'. Sure, you can say to yourself that you won't feel it one hour later, or you didn't feel it yesterday, but it's very hard to convince the heart unless I'm actually feeling that it's not constant. Any suggestions for how to overcome this issue is appreciated.

Yes, but Ralston is a fucking "sage", or at least that's what I thought until now. -
There is a book on Leo's book list which talks all about love, and more specifically unconditional love, but also other forms of love. Check it out.

I think it also has to do with deep negative beliefs that are so rooted into the subconscious mind that you're not even conscious of them, but you feel all the negative emotions it brings. Will take a lot of work to resurface and work through most of them. -
What I found useful to do was to write down all my stressful thoughts about a situation on paper, and then to contemplate each sentence one by one: is it true, how does believing that thought make me feel, and who would I be without that thought. This technique will heal you of all your negative emotions.

But science is itself just a model and not really 'true', and contemplation reveals the absolute truth about it. -
I know that an enlightenment experience is a mystical experience. But why is there more than one type of mystical experience? Why does each psychedelic give you different mystical experiences? Is there a finite number of mystical experiences possible? Is there any other method of experiencing mystical experiences other than through psychedelics, concentration and breathing?
