  1. @Soulbass to be honest, I am just following what Dr Greger recommends on this one. Most B12 studies were made on cyanocobalamin and the few on methylocobalamin show that it is quite unstable and has bad shelf life. But I don't really know for sure, perhaps both are ok Solgar is the one I picked as they have good reputation here in UK and are easily accessible. They also had sublingual caps and at the amount I was looking for. I've never looked into Brewer's yeast, only in nutritional yeast. Both are very bad for people with chronic inflammatory bowel disease such as chron's or UC. I've tried once making sauce with brewer's yeast and got really nasty smelly discusting burps and weird stomach feeling, since then haven't tried it again.
  2. to add a little bit on what was said above, Sometimes prevention is indeed the best sunscreen. Most of us grown in colder climates have very little sun tolerance before we start making a lot of damage to our skin. Generally the paler the skin the less sunshine it needs. That being said, of course on vacations etc we want to get a little tan and to do so safely so sunbathing either before 10-11 am or after 5-6pm could be safe strategies. Definitely stay away from rough sunshine especially when travelling to somewhere like Thailand, the sun will roast you in 30 minutes when you get out there after 11 am. As for some natural prevention: Pomegranates and berries due to their antioxidant protective have been shown to have protective effect against skin Alcohol; had opposite effect and reduced the time needed to get sunburned. So sipping margaritas while sunbathing is potentially the worst thing to do as it accelerates the damage massively. Coconut oil has a sun protection factor of around 8 SPF, I use it as my daily face cream although it give me the "dog's ball" shiny effect. Other than that i found this awesome study that collated data on various natural supplements , check it out https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3263051/ there is a lot of info on sun protectionas well as post-sun exposure like tea tree oil and aloe vera.
  3. @pluto I'd say it also comes down to people being on standard diet knowing absolutely nothing about nutrition and often being defficient even on most common nutrients such as Vitamin C, A, Magnesium, Zinc etc..What we strive for is first of all, make sure we are not deficient in anything but second also to thrive on this lifestyle... I wouldnt't say that people being on standard meat diet thrive...they may not be sick or anything but their bodies are not healthy...it is just not possible when someone eats rotten carcass...you only need to look in these people's eyes sometimes...red, discoloured, full of broken veins and tiny bleeding capillaries. . I agree with the argument that you can get all you nutrients in as long as you get out on sun but since we do not eat bugs and raw picked plants most of times, B12 being microbial poop can be difficult to get unless the person would have a garden and natural spring water somewhere next to them. Of course there are fortified foods like tempeh but they are not as rich of a source and we'd need them daily. So a small "cheat" in form of supplement is a nice workaround.
  4. google: <your city> life coach. Not sure where you live but this is usually a good way to find one. of course look for references, website content, their blog (if any) and just overall impression.
  5. hey man, sorry to hear that. IBS is a really nasty one I feel for you! Dr Robert Morse is one of the greatest healers of our time, he makes massive videos on youtube without monetising them just answering peoples questions. I believe he was asked about IBS several time, look him up. Other than that, if you are interested in what the actual research says, check Dr Greger's channel (nutritionfacts.org) Also, perhaps try speaking to a Nasturopath in your area or Herbalist to help you out : ) From what I've studied and read on digestive pathologies, you have some deep cleansing to do brother but definitelly make sure to get on with it as early as possible. Severe dietary changes may be required potentially requiring you to remove all animal products. Hope any of that helps.
  6. @Nathan B12 deficiency ranges from early to late stage symptoms Early stage: tingling in extremities, twitching in muscles, increased irritation, sore / shiny red tongue, mild anxiety Late stage: vision problems even loss, a lot of spontaneous movement, cognitive decline, loss of coordination. Some theories attribute it even to diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis that basically stem from destruction of central nervous system pathway from brain through spinal cord
  7. Leo has a video about this I think.
  8. the silent treatment is a way of "feeling sorry" for oneself and playing the "ill person's game" As children we learned that the times received full attention of everyone were times we got ill. We would receive our parent's 100% treatment, love and it was very comfortable. As grownups many continue this habit by playing victim, crying for completely useless things, pouting and giving people silent treatments. This gives us a certain power over the other person and lets us manipulate them emotionally to do our bidding whenever a disagreement appears by making them feel that they hurt our feelings or made us very sad and dissapointed. This is a tool of the devil and you must absolutely not allow its tentacles to grasp you. Do not play the "mr nice guy" or "sorry baby it is my fault". I am not exactly sure what is the best way to tackle this but I'd say act normally. Playign this game requires a lot of emotional feedback to continue, if you don't provide it, it will stop "being fun." As others already said above, if this is a common thing, consider terminating this relationship.
  9. Gotu Kola that Pluto mentioned is a bomb! There is so much research on this stuff. I found it working better as a tea rather than capsule.
  10. check out nutritionfacts.org, he made few videos on cannabis and its impact to brain literally like 2 weeks ago. Latest science at your fingertips
  11. avoid eating after 6pm, let your body digest 100% so that all the blood is spared for the brain so that you can have more lucid dreaming, out of body experiences and stuff like that (if you believe in it)
  12. aww thanks I've signed up for a naturopathic course last year, 2 more years to go (learned a lot about anatomy there) everything else regarding nutrition pretty much by listening to experts on youtube, and from books
  13. good stuff, Vit D is really easy to accumulate even if you are slightly deficient but B12 is really tough once it gets too low. People who are deficient often end up getting injections that don't do shit. The massive doses are because we only absorb less than 1% of it and since B-vits are water soluable the rest 99% goes down the toilet. I think there are also some highly absorbable ones but they are freakishly expensive and hard to tell if they work at all. Cool, Omega 3 is super important for proper brain function, make sure you get it daily.
  14. bitcoin plays into the unconciousness of the modern society wanting a lot for nothing..careful, this is a very, very thin ice and an abys so deep that most will never ever be able to climb out of it. There is little difference with gambling . Just a friendly word of caution.
  15. B12 (mandatory) is absolutely essential. 500mcg per day of cyanocobalamin (not methylcobalamin). Or 1000 mcg ever other day. I use Solgar brand they are on UK amazon and have a sublingual (under tongue) 1000mcg product. which I take every other day. The problem is that it takes years for deficiencies to show up as the liver has massive stores of it but once you get deficient.... that messes up your central nervous system pretty bad...I do hope that every vegan has a source of B12. Vitamin D3 (quite important) - depending on how often do you get on sunshine, 2000 i.u (international units). Perhaps not as necessary these days with a lot of sun but quite important in days when you don't get out. Make sure to eat it with a source of fat (very little is needed, perhaps like 1 walnut) or oil as vit D is fat soluble. Omega 3 (optional) - this depends on if you already have other source such as flaxseeds or chia seeds (1tbsp a day is fine). if you do, there is probably no need to although Dr Greger recommends adding a long-chain Omega 3 such as Algae oil around 250mg of DHA (have a look at the original from nutritionfacts.org video to be sure). Everything else you can get from food. And it would pretty much depend if you have any ongoing condition or malnutrition or damaged gut and malabsorbtion. Turmeric is not a bad one to take in as it is an extraordinary herb. 1/4 of teaspoon along with 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper (helps with turmeric absorbtion) mixed in water once a day is not a bad idea.
  16. There is also a potential link between gluten and autoimmune diseases such as lupus, RA, MS and many many other. But the literature seems to be quite contradictory...
  17. well said sir ! great response
  18. Sprouting is incredible. You can sprout beans, lentils, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, buckwheat, quinoa and many other. The plant gets activated and the living force inside of it goes out. All the anti-nutrients are broken and the digestability of the plant skyrockets. Things like sprouts and ripe fruits are highest frequency fruits. A word of caution though: make sure you consume any sprouts within 4-5 days as they germinate and could cause you a poisoning if stored for too long. I poisoned myself from sprouted lentils not long ago :D. The easiest ones to start with are sunflower seeds or mung beans.
  19. Congratulations on finding your purpose, this is where your journey begins ! I found myself in same crossroad a year ago and decided to go back to weekend school at 27 to pursue my purpose. Nobody can truly give you an answer on what is the best cause. Only you know that. Listen to your intuition and put your thoughts on paper. Journal and meditate on it daily. Or simply let it sit for a while and the answer will be revealed to you. Perhaps the uni is the right way. Find other people who did this, figure out a way to connect with them, everyone loves to talk about themselves. Pick their brains ask them about their journeys and recommendations, maybe you could do an internship with someone. You can definitelly help the planet without the degree but having it helps. There are ways of obtaining it by external studies or weekend studies nowadays (thats what I do). I bet there are hundreds of books on the topic. You can become a bookworm for a year and focus 100% on study while having some side job to be able to pay bills, afterwards you could open an awareness channel on youtube or join an organisation. There are probably also courses you could do in few months or maybe a year that would award you with valuable certificate. Be prepared for a lot of hard work and struggle, day in day out. But what else are you going to do with your life? Don't settle for less than you are able. If your dreams don't frighten you, they are too small.
  20. perhaps I misunderstood the message but if I was eating what feels right in the moment, I'd pretty much be stuffing myself with junk food because that tastes the best. Lack of long term awareness of what you eat usually ends up in heart disease or cancer.....did I overreact to your comment?
  21. wow great discussion, I love that the topic has been challenged! Adding a little bit of self research from "Oxygen Advantage" by Patrick Mckeown. The hyperventilation is a mayor cause of asthma and breathing difficulties. Mouth breathing in that case causes constriction of trachea (windpipe) and wheezing...it definitely does for me. Calm, nose breathing opens the throat and heals asthma slowly, we should be focusing on taking as few breaths per minute as possible, ideally less than 5 a minute which are not particularly deep either. The fact is that human blood is also saturated with oxygen to very high percentage, around 96%. But if a haemoglobin molecule has a damage on its polypeptide chain for example by missing an iron molecule, it may not be able to carry as much oxygen as it could, this usually a reason of lacking oxygen, not insufficient breathing, a mechanical damage. Or an ongoing disease such as emphysema or lupus that destroy lung alveolar tissue. I have tried the shamanic breathing technique 3 times and started wheezing and my throat started closing but I could be doing it wrong, because many people seem to profit from it. Excellent discussion though, loved reading all the comments !!
  22. Thanks for opening this. Leo, all the best ! Thank you for everything you do!
  23. Substitute regular grains for wholegrains: quinoa, buckwheat, oats (gluten free) millet, wild rice + other Why? : 1. if you look at it, we hardly ever consume grains in their natural state, we process them bake them and make pastry out of them or pasta. A food that is like glue to your intestines. A typical white bread has no nutritional value besides a lot of starch that spikes your insulin levels a same way as the guy who just kicked his toe on a coffee table. 2. A lot of people are also intolerant to a protein in wheat, barley and rye called gluten that is a cause of Celiac's disease and potentially a cause of some autoimmune conditions and systemic body inflammations and acne. Should you eliminate it instantly? See how your body reacts to it. Does it make you lethargic, sleepy? It sure does for me. How do you feel after you've had a toast with jam for breakfast. Test it out and see. And than try to have buckwheat for breakfast with fruit and see how you feel with that. Your body gives you all answers simply listen to it
  24. @Leo Gura is the forum getting trolled by 4chan or something..
  25. the evidence is out there and it is incredibly overhwelming. Study after study on pubmed showing harmful effects. But since this is a forever ongoing discussion on this forum just like a meat, you'll just have to test it for yourself and figure out how it makes you feel.
