I recall a time when I was obsessively tracking calories and measuring my food. Sure, that’s fine if you’re a professional bodybuilder, but it certainly just caused much more headaches for me. It’s not just about the number of calories, also, where are those calories being sourced from? Ice cream or fruit smoothie? Is the money being sourced from a job you hate which causes you to stress more, thus you make more impulsive and unwise financial decisions?

You can be a master at Monopoly and be terrible at handling your personal finances.

Oh yeah, that’s a tough one. Reminds me of how I relate to my parents. My parents want me to be a certain way and I resist by saying that things are perfect just the way they are now. Nobody wins with this mentality in the long-run. We’re now starting to learn from each other and have more open communications, rather than constantly resisting each others’ radically different worldviews and experiences. I need to humble myself by realizing that deep spiritual insights and experiences will not automagically solve my human desires such as developing healthy relationships and finances. And they need to understand that I am not the way society and culture labeled me to be (thus, they still believe that I would be better as soon I achieve x, y, and z) In the words of a wise teacher, “We don’t have to agree with each other to respect each other.”

Not cultivating the beauty in the ordinary

Consider that strange diseases can mature and wise you rapidly. Many great teachers I’ve had the privilege to be in the presence with shared many stories of all the challenges that they’ve personally had to face. And they were all very strange, but certainly not strangers

Strict labels and categorizations can be really deceptive, so watch out. I was pleasantly surprised by this entire workshop I attended yesterday. I was expecting to be completely judgmental and feeling like I was above everyone in the group, but my entire paradigm shifted when I dropped all of my limiting beliefs and actually attended with an open mind.

Ah, yes. I’ve also imagined myself drowning before. I get it, most people would think this was just a hallucination and not real. Exactly! The most unreal experiences I’ve had in my life were MUCH realer than my “real” life as a human.
