It's very simple in fact. The problem is the symbology that trips people up. There is only one case in nature where we can have x^0 and that is when we have a number divided by itself. Let me do an example: x/x = 1 x^2= x*x (x*x) ÷ (x*x) = 1 (x^2) ÷ (x^2) = x^(2-2) = x^(0)=1 So what happens is that we have 2 symbols pointing to the same thing, which causes this confusion.
