I think for the self to arise there needs to be a structure that can produce that self. And this structure needs to be stable through time to produce a self that is stable through time. And this structure is a brain. And this brain took years of evolution to evolve. So you’re conscious now of reality , and you’re asking why is reality this way, well because it’s in this type of reality that consciousness/self arises, giving you the ability to ask that question -

Why can’t sense of self appear in objects? It seems like the sense of self is bound to the brain -

I meant isn’t that something that science has been pondering that we don’t know. Whether there is something “behind the scenes” of experience or not. If there is an objective external world (I don’t think so). So when you mention that your sense organs don’t exist outside your experience, I said that we don’t know. But from my experience yes I agree it seems as if everything is what is occurring in my experience -

I mean the word thought and the word feelings are concepts, but to me the experience of a feeling is not a concept, and thoughts can be of images so again not only concepts. But then how much our mind is involved in conceptualizing our experiences/senses might not always be apparent, so some of it could be conceptual too . -

Could you say that is why it seems we “skip” deep sleep? Because it’s no experience so it’s like it’s day, then we dream then it’s directly day. -

By mental processes stopping do you mean just the thoughts or sense perception too? Because you can have a quiet mind while still having sense perceptions so still having movement = experience -

Maybe it’s true nobody exists so it’s not a trap Theres also experience in the astral realm as the astral body. But I have experienced how the self , the physical self has an affect on the self in the astral realm. So it’s like the brain is the basis for self, so I think -

Hard to wrap mind around. I am imagining like a scenario of trying to create complete stillness. Maybe something like a sensory depravation floating tank. But that still couldn’t produce complete stillness, there would be the sensation of heartbeat for example. -
In my experience fantasy and mind constructions can be ways to escape uncomfortable feelings in the body, emotions, boredom

Ok . I’d say I agree. Based on some of my own experiences. It’s like a kind of “distance” to the stressful mind activity(or tension in the body, and other ways stress can manifest as) is required , and that “distance” is kind of like an clear awareness of it, which I guess is similar to what you call “being grasped as is happening”. It’s probably hard because we get caught up in the stressful mind activity

Yea some veggies are more common to eat raw and maybe that has some science behind it. Lol the connected video

Thoughts are concepts right? And feelings are triggered by concepts -

i constantly feel like I exist and constantly feel like there’s something going on, something happening, that to me is experience. But there must be something else than this experience, may that be nothing, maybe it’s a paradox because you can’t experience nothing so all I have is experience of something I mean this constant experience, there must be something else than this. Maybe that’s what’s “longed for” -

This “concrete configuration “ is the brain right? But for experience to happen doesn’t there need to be some sense of duality? For one to recognize something as happening. Otherwise it’s like nothing. And that duality is self even if it’s really simple. Like doesn’t a retarded person still have some kind of self -
Sugarcoat replied to UnbornTao's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
But don’t the first memory come from when a self had formed? I don’t remember before that yea I see the self as a structure too. With no duality between preceptor and perception wouldn’t that be same as nothing -

How do you know baby has experience? And ant. We have no memory of being baby could as we’ll have been nothing -

The reason you have a sense of having an experience, of something going on is because you have a self. Period. I’ve been in states of near total self dissolution naturally that I barely can talk about with anyone because it’s so strange. And in those states the world has almost no 3D depth, it’s the self that creates that 3D depth that space sense. Sense of time too, sense of continuity, sense of something going on at all. All becuase you have a self, if it was reduced or gone you’d understand
