I ran away from home, ended up in a homeless shelter, and then lived in subsidized housing before moving back home with my parents and working in retail. It was, by all means, crazy what I did, and I wouldn't recommend my personal life path to anyone. However, It led to so much personal growth and motivation for better in my life (and first-hand knowledge of the systems in society that keep people poor.) If I didn't do all that, I wouldn't be making a lot of money in a career focused on my life purpose (using technology to bring people together.)

@raytvor It sounds like you felt the Self and are trying to analyze your experience. Your mind is trying to conceptualize what can't be conceptualized. I think that's normal, though. What happened is that you had a glimpse of Consciousness beyond your day-to-day consciousness (which technically is still Consciousness.) @WaveInTheOcean is correct that everything is pure Consciousness, but most people aren't aware of that. @Godishere is correct that it wasn't a full mystical experience where there is no doubt, but I think it is a good start towards a rewarding spiritual path. Keep going. -
@FlowerfaeiryWell, we can spend this entire thread discussing fault, but I don't think that's the real issue. From one perspective, you talked to a person you felt was dangerous and suffered the consequences. From another perspective, you can't control other people's actions, and you didn't do anything a rational, sober person would say that would provoke her to assault you. From my perspective, the drunk angry person did you a favor -- she got you out of a situation that could have led you to seriously relapse into your old habits. I'm not saying your life is great right now, and I agree being alone/feeling lonely can be bad for your mental health. But addiction is something that is not to be messed with. If the temptation to use is that strong for you, it's best to be out of that house. Think of that person as an angry mirror of yourself who got upset that you chose to stay in a situation that's bad for you. Thank that mirror and let her go. I hope you find some better roommates next time.

I didn't say he was guilty or making a judgment, only that the sexual assault accusations should be investigated. I would say that about anyone. If it turns out they were unsubstantiated, that's one thing. If it turns out they're true, he should be punished accordingly. What I am doing is the opposite of judging. I am keeping an open mind about whether he is guilty or not. People who say he is innocent only because they got a personal benefit from his work are being closed-minded.
-
But were they properly investigated? I'm not being rhetorical, I really want to know. From what I saw online, they were just denied and swept under the rug.

Even narcissists aren't 100% evil (though some are pretty close ) But I would never say about a man accused of sexual assault, "He got flaws," or that it's "okay" his sexism is a bad as some racism or other excuses for inexcusable behavior. Rape is a crime and should be treated as such. Sexism and insults are not "okay" even though he might have good intentions behind his words. I'm not saying we should cancel Tony Robbins, but let's not give him a free pass, either.

Hi all, I work for Big Company in Conservative Dystopia. (Nothing against companies or conservatism as they can be great or dysfunctional. Where I live, things are pretty dysfunctional.) Big Company is actually prestigious and rather hard to get into. I believe in serendipity, so I figure Higher Self has a reason why I'm here even though I feel I'm a total mismatch. Big Company is Blue-Orange with a tinge of Green (Spiral Dynamics.) I'm into Yellow, a bit of Turquoise. So -- I should get fired, right? No, Big Company has moved me into its even more prestigious R&D department and is using my story as a recruitment tool. I even got asked to apply for a well-paying engineering job I'm far from qualified for last week. (I turned that down diplomatically.) I realize this all may come off as bragging, but my health is starting to suffer because of the values mismatch, despite my efforts to take control of my health and well-being. I don't want what's happening to destroy my health. At the same time, I don't see a way out. The issue is money and resources. I make a lot of money on paper, but most of it is going to catch up on my retirement (I'm 39 and behind) or pay off debts. I work in IT, so the obvious next step in my career is getting a software engineering degree where I could make six figures anywhere (and move the heck out of here.) Since I am already paying off one big student loan, the only reasonable way to get another degree is to get the company to reimburse me for my education. I tell my wonderful Green+ therapist my woes, and she tells me that I would run into problems everywhere I go, and the people I have issues with are everywhere also. She's right. I have worked for over 20 years to improve myself, so it makes sense I'm at where I'm at. However, it's isolating. I would love to get married and have kids (assuming biological ones are even possible now at my age as a female(!)), but I can't find anyone who shares my values or viewpoints. (Closest I can get is Green, which is nice but just not far enough.) I need a change in viewpoint. Friends would be nice, too. I do have a few good friends, but I have to tiptoe around some issues with them. I would like to meet someone where we can discuss systems and holism without them looking at me like a freak. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any words of encouragement for me? This may be unrealistic, as the average board member around here seems to be around 20-30. But hey, you could be me in 20 years. Any advice for potentially your future self?

There are many reasons people may feel empty, but what you are describing sounds like borderline personality disorder. From the link above:

I am so sorry for your loss.

I should be getting the second shot of the Moderna vaccine next week. The first shot left me feeling lousy for a few days, but that's a reaction within normal range. -

I don't know where you live, but the time when only essential workers and people with a higher severity rate were getting the shot has already passed. Severe reactions to the Pfizer vaccine were about the same as the placebo. There's no real reason to delay getting the vaccine anymore unless you know you're allergic to one of its ingredients. Make plans to get the vaccine now, as it may be a while before they actually get around to injecting you. -

We all get this way (doomsday lens.) Heck, I feel this way about myself today. That said, everything is "perfect" because everything can't be any other way than it is right now. Example: Donald Trump is perfectly Donald Trump. That doesn't mean Donald Trump is perfect. It means he can't be any other way, because then, he wouldn't be the Donald Trump we know. He would be some other guy. To pull this in with the Texas political ad, Texas can't be any other way than it is right now, as the general populaces' frames and personal biases determine it. That allows a fraudster from New Jersey to pose as a Texan so he can win an election since he can't even win elections where he's based right now (Nevada.) If he wins, Texans deserve what they get -- because from the way they see the world, he's the best they deserve. That said, I feel you. The way the world is right now is frustrating as hell. -

I gotta agree, that was excellent marketing. No substance behind that, though. -

Let me translate Texan to English for you. In Texan, "Communist" means "They give money to people we don't like." So if they give money/handouts/tax breaks to rich white males, that's OK. White women? Maybe if they're Republican. Poor people, especially people of color? Hell, no. That is what "Communism" means in Texan. They have no clue who Marx, Lenin, or Mao (or any other prominent Communists) are. -

This may be old school, but if you want to persuade me about anything scientific, link to a scientific paper, not a YouTube video. Scientific papers, for all their faults, have a vetting system. Anyone can post a YouTube video, so the quality of scientific information varies widely -- so widely I don't even bother sometimes. Yes, they're available on the internet. Some of them cost money, but I can pay the $35 if it's worth it. The same goes for court cases. Post legal documents, not YouTube videos. Yes, they're available on the internet, too. -

I know you said you're kidding, but if you use Microsoft Windows or any Microsoft product, you're still Bill Gates' dog. If you have a smartphone with GPS activated, you're as good as microchipped. -

This isn't entirely true. Rich people read books mostly about self-improvement. I imagine they realize that since they're at the head of the rat race, they still need to keep running so they don't fall behind. -

That's actually a quote from the Bible (Matthew 25:29) and is referred to as the Matthew Effect. -

As someone knee-deep in this conservative dystopia, I don't see much "deep conservatism" around here much anymore. Conservatism used to be about things like conserving. A Republican president signed the Environmental Protection Agency into law. What passes for conservatism these days is just embarrassing. I'm not saying modern liberalism is much better, only that I've lived in Texas for 25 years, and it's just scary here sometimes with all the brainwashing, cognitive dissonance, and self-destructive behaviors. -
Nobody_Here replied to Leo Gura's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
Correct. It's a scientific idea. No one is arguing that. -

Yes, and since I have actually attended a rodeo, I noticed that the commercial omitted what I think is a significant detail: An announcer would have mentioned something about a timer. The goal of a real bull rider is to stay on the bull for eight seconds. Who knows, though -- the fake Texan bull rider might have a shot (pun intended) at winning. After 2020, nothing surprises me anymore. -

True, the guy died of COVID, but to be fair, he had planned to get the shot when it was available as he was a cancer survivor and was over 65. (I never voted for him.) That said, it's kind of ironic. -

It would have been nice if @Leo Gura gave you an explanation, but you're not entitled to one -- especially when Google is at your fingertips. Climate change will become really bad in 20-30 years, but the problem is that it will destroy humanity's way of life. Mother Earth doesn't give a darn about humans and will be around long after we all die.
