The Buddha as popular as he is today would make billions? He’s selling Buddha statues, tattoos, books about Buddhism, and Buddha bowls. Mans it raking in the cash.
-
@UnbornTao Yeah I thought he layered returned but then recalled he did, but not to his roles. However, it remains that he did have teachings for house holders. He didn’t have an illusion of a whole world of monks.
-
@UnbornTao Well, he was a prince. I was wrong about a couple things. He lived in poverty by choice for 45 years after
-
@Eskilon It was the value he contributed to others. He ultimately did not teach poverty. How he positioned himself was key to his work. He was also an extraordinary individual. He focused on his work and his teachings. His wealth came from being a prince. But, as a prince he could not pursue his work. At his time he could not build wealth while also pursuing truth and awakening. We live in an age where you can develop wealth, and you can then go about your spiritual pursuits. This possibility is there for modern humans. How Leo positioned himself is key to his work. Leo is wealthy I think, and he does not pursue wealth but consciousness and understanding. The trick is not letting it corrupt you. This is my opinion. I respect different approaches. There is no one path, so do as you see fittest. A key difference is the teachings he gave to his monks- Acetic poverty and house holders - healthy relationship to wealth. A monk is like a little Buddha clone. They are designed and programmed to access his awakening and to preserve his teaching. Again, there was no written language back then and therefore a monk is like a form of spiritual technology. They also continued to evolve and contribute to the body of work by being full time. But, I think most of us here are considered householders. We can build wealth and manage it well is taught by Buddha. Being wealthy is spiritual. Poverty, is not required.
-
@Eskilon That is not why he is known. Study the Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching that Thich-Hat- Nanh. Buddha actually contributed a teaching and system for transcending suffering and living a good life. It’s a powerful system. But, it in truth does not promote poverty as a core tenant. Many people choose to be poor as part of an ascetic spiritual path. Many misunderstand Buddha and choose to be poor. But, it’s not the focus on why Buddha is known.
-
The Buddha clearly teaches non-violence. But, does not teach non-wealth. He teaches non-attachment. But, not poverty.
-
@Eskilon There is almost no people in general who are enlightened. You are side stepping my point about Buddha’s view on wealth with a general platitude. Be careful there. Wealth seeking perhaps is an important stage of life to build the foundation of freedom for spiritual pursuits. Most humans will not truthfully pursue enlightenment. Truth is, most poor people are doomed to constant stress, survival and craving and have 0 chance of deep spiritual progress. Wealth is key in modern age to truly become spiritually developed. The trick with Buddhism is how you are using your mind to create suffering. Wealth doesn’t inherently stop one from enlightenment. But, wealth seeking as an attitude can be toxic.
-
@Eskilon I think the Buddha actually has teachings on how to use wealth and how to get it in the proper ways. A lot of us only have a shallow grasp of this teachings which are pretty comprehensive. There is a pop understanding of Buddhism, which is like the myth of Buddhism I think.
-
@Eskilon He did return to his family though? Regardless, there is nothing in his teachings that is anti-wealth.

@Leo Gura Buddha was a millionaire king. Anyway, good point. Your post sparked something in me. Thank you

Just turned 30. I’m back in a big city for a few days. Pushes myself to go out and socialize. Here are some observations from an introverted 30 year old: 1. Your self image and fears are generally lying to you 2. Just sit down and socialize with anyone and sometimes new doors and opportunities open up. Like, discovering cool new places, people etc 3. I ended up at a Karaoke bar and there was a very flirtatious girl but I wasn’t into her. 4. There is a lot of work for me to do to relax more, and build state. I observe that people can read your state almost right away. Relaxing, dancing and having fun is cool. Doesn’t matter how you look etc if you are having fun people enjoy that. I have doubts around my age, receding hairline etc. but, I know I have to act now and go out etc. How about you guys in your 30s, how are things going?

@TruthFreedom The logical mind can’t grasp what you are doing. It’s just spinner fantasies. -
@Yimpa She said that she opened her mind to absolute truth. It was a small awakening in a colloquial sense. She’s interested in Buddhist teachings and philosophy. I helped her make the distinction between relative and absolute truth. I also helped her expand her understanding of the “false self” into all of the social matrix’s constructs and then we explored Leo’s Pure Philosophy. It’s nice to have a friend I can have a deep talk with. For me it was a really nice refresher in this idea of Pure philosophy and so much clicked as well especially with Leo’s recent videos. After we went to a Joe Dispenza meditation healing circle…. Which, actually worked. I feel so much better afterward.

I was speaking with a girl about Leo’s Pure philosophy and she had a mini awakening. Want to reshare it here. This is what Philosophy is… This is the highest philosophy any human has created, and of course it’s the universe. https://www.actualized.org/insights/introducing-pure-philosophy

I only know about underage teenage girls from what media has told me. If that’s true then okay sure. Sexual predator of minors, child sex trafficker, isn’t the same as a technical definition of pedo. But, if he is also a pedo from the evidence that’s not something I would argue against. But, no. It’s not “as clear is it gets” when you use words by their clinical definitions. What I am saying isn’t complicated man. -
Thought Art replied to LordFall's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
Yeah, that is simple. But discussing whether or not Epstein is a pedophile is actually not as easy to discuss. The disgusting breaking of the law and harming of minors is obvious but the definitions of words we use is confusing. Which is what I was trying to explain. Anyway, fine u you talk about cringe things but not us just saying. -

Wake up lol The problem is you realize anything like that would fail. That’s the basic premise of the movie Bruce Almighty. -

@Hojo No man. You say those things. You are struggling 😂. In terms of definitions what I am saying is true. The ability to handle nuance is important. Anyway, cringe police 👮 @Leo Gura My bad. I got caught up in the distinctions of terms, definitions etc. It’s interesting to explore language, distinction and sense making…., however with this subject yeah it is cringe from the beginning. When discussing the Epstein situation these are conversations that do come up. We as a culture don’t know how to talk about this. Conflict, confusion, negative emotions are natural and healthy. Also, knowing when to stop talking about it. Protecting teens and kids is obviously the right thing to do. These people like Epstein are abusers of minors and should be brought to justice. -
@Leo Gura Don’t think so?

@Hojo Man, make the distinction. They are under 18 but older than say, 12. 18 is adult. So they are under aged girls. Likely, the technical term would be hebephile. technically not pedophilia. But, colloquially people just call anything under aged pedophile. People don’t in common speech make clinical distinctions between hebephiles and pedophiles. So, I am fine with people using that term colloquially, or clinically. 18 year olds are adults. Which is what you were trying to say before makes you a pedo (when used colloquially), but it doesn’t because they are legally adults. Like, are you just being stubborn or or are you struggling with making distinctions here? It isn’t that complicated. I sense you literally just didn’t understand my previous comment….. -
Thought Art replied to LordFall's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
@Hojo Nah, I’m fine with there being a clinical definition and then a colloquial use in culture. -
@Psychonaut physically and psychologically. Sometimes less is more.
