@Leo Gura I've always wondered, what's the use of that? Why should one do it? Do they get something out of changing their name to a spiritual one? Indian words are popular as spiritual names.

He actually has a YouTube channel, if you guys didn't know, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/@AvNeryah/videos -
TikTok trends Decorating New Year tree Costumes / clothes of christian priests from different hierarchies Fashion industry Playing soccer in school (my dad forced me to join soccer classes in childhood because every parent around us wanted their children to play soccer and be involved in soccer in some ways) Singing national anthem before sporting event begins Oh god, conformity is everywhere. It's like a set of templates that we just choose and follow / act on mechanically. I've always had some dirty feeling when I participated in an activity that I understood was just conformity, but I didn't label them as such. But if I participate more or less consciously, for example decorate a new year tree with my family but in the background I know the act itself is meaningless and conformist, but my intention is being with my family and appreciating and loving those moments with them while they last, the activity itself loses that dirty feeling because I know why I'm doing it. I guess that isn't conformity anymore.

@SimpleGuy I think that's a very direct example of a survival. Why do you think it's not? -

@SimpleGuy Yea I've seen it. The tricky part is distinguishing what is survival vs what is not in every day experience. -

@Leo Gura Yeah I've been pondering that for some time, but I have one difficulty. I haven't experienced non-egoic, non-selfish pure consciousness yet, I just have my life experience so far as a reference, and I don't have much contrast between selfish and non-selfish perception. Everything is basically selfish from my POV, more or less. I even see my own agenda when I do "non-selfish" activity like helping others for example. I guess non-selfish would be something that I do that's not in relation to "me" and myself. But all I know is "me", so yeah, it's a tricky one. I'll keep pondering. -

@Leo Gura How would you define selfishness? In your experience, how do you distinguish what's selfish and what's not in your actions / behaviours / emotions / etc? -
bazera replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
What's the goal here? I see the value in understanding my selfishness, accepting it more and more, and becoming more conscious of the gross and subtle ways that I behave selfishly, but I'm not sure how to transcend that. It comes down to transcending survival, but is that really possible? I guess the goal is to be more acutely aware of ones selfishness, and the consequences it has on life in general, and on other people, and collateral damage. @Leo Gura What do you think? Do you try to transcend selfishness altogether? Is that something you see as even possible while physically alive? -
@Leo Gura Dude come on, you prefer asians over slavic girls? Maybe that's because you're russian yourself Don't know how that relates to it though.

@Leo Gura I don't think so, eating too much makes you fat. When I'm on a caloric deficit, even if 80% of those calories are carbs, I still lose weight. Maybe eliminating carbs seemingly makes the process more rapid, but carbs also retain water so that might be water weight that you seem to lose couple kg's so quickly. Also, in my experience, carbs are the best source of energy for workouts, cardio and weight lifting.

1. Go to this site and calculate your maintenance calories => https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html 2. Subtract 300-500 calories from that and it that calories for couple months 3. Track weekly, and monthly, make sure you meet that caloric number on average at the end of week and month Do these three and it's basically guaranteed that you'll lose weight if you stay consistend with step #3

@Leo Gura But you also had girlfriends during that time, haven't you? And you also mentioned you might pursue one later and that you wanted to burn through the karma of having more fulfilling intimate relationships. I guess your point is that ultimately your focus was on Actulized, instead of any girl, but you also did that to some degree, pursuing women, but you always had your eye on the most important thing for you, which was philosophy and creating Actualized.
-
@Leo Gura Have you always been this way? Or you've become like that gradually after you did all the spiritual work and psychedelics?
-
@Leo Gura But how? Ralston talks about that in his books and podcasts as well, to just stop doing it, but I don't understand how, I am not aware of myself creating / doing the thought / emotion, it feels automatic. Even if I force myself to not think of rejection for example, it feels untruthful because deep down I feel myself being hurt. Does your answer assume some high-level self-awareness skill that meditation helps develop for example?

@Thought Art Why do you think that being 30 is old for dating? Of course it's easier in 20s, but still.
-
@Leo Gura Which one was missing most of the time? Which of these do you find the hardest to be compatible to with a girl? Or just combination and different degrees of these.

@Leo Gura By business you mean all the survival stuff that we do or just strictly finances and career? Just asking because I'm very careful about this point, I'm 29 and slowly bulding my life (career, skills, finances, dating life, living environment, travel, health and fitness, basic self-help, healing trauma, therapy, removing addictions, etc). But at the same time I slowly realize that life should not be about these ultimately, there should be something deeper going on. And I look at those as foundation, handling survival to the point that I am not desperate in any major areas. Also, I see the trap of losing myself in all these and not taking metaphysics seriously once I'm somewhat satisfied with how the survival is handled. Its a tricky thing to balance. -
bazera replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Leo Gura Okay, so the reasoning is that first handle survival needs (acquire marketable skills, finances, dating and socialization skills, have no debt, have some basic home, etc) because once you get too metaphysical and trip some more, you might lose motivation to do all the above and therefore not do them, which will make life harder? Is that your point? -

@ExploringReality Can you elaborate on this a bit more? Like, why exactly is it a problem to have financial and relationship issues and trip at the same time? Why is that an obstacle? -
Just do this
-
@lostmedstudent You can just order them and get it delivered? So 5meo-dmt and mushrooms are legal in Canada?
-
@Leo Gura That's the thing with these ceremonies and shamans, I don't know how much say will I have in that, or how will I make sure that the dose is not too large, even if they tell me it isn't. I'll just explain to them that I don't want to be taking a large dose so they consider that. I want to have someone experienced around when I'll be tripping my first couple trips, I have no idea what to expect and the thought that there are people that can more or less take care of me will be soothing. Also, retreats are easier in a way. I don't want to deal with shady websites and people to acquire chemicals myself yet. Once I get more experience, I'll probably find ways of tripping alone.
-
Hey, I want to do a retreat where I'll be having 5meo-DMT experience as my first mystical experience ever in my life. I've dabbled with meditation and kriya yoga but very inconsistently. I've never had a chance to try any psychedelics. I've been contemplating sober and deconstructing many of my beliefs over the years, but now I want to take it to another level and I want to actually experience non-egoic consciousness because I feel like that will have a catalyst effect in my growth and development. Question for those who have experienced the effects of 5meo, what would your advice be, to go ahead and do it and see what it brings, or slowly build up to it with other psychedelics (mushrooms, LSD, etc)?
-
@RawJudah How are you planning to do that? Are you planning to reconnect with old friends, or going to bars / clubs for cold approach, or going to social events by yourself and meeting new people, or? I'm looking for some ideas of the ways to socialize more myself.
-
@Peo They will have huge problem, that was my point. My point was that people who game at 50, probably already have gaming experience of like 20 years. There wont be many noob old gamers at the club.
