@NoSelfSelf Respect for making the progress you've done. And I can understand why game is so meaningful to ya. I see it as like a way outta hell for a lot of folks. I look forward to watching your further growth.

@NoSelfSelf Yeeee dude i think you're on the money here. I meet the diagnosis for cptsd. If you haven't heard of it, my understanding is its essential a psychic structure that results from an accumulation traumatic experiences, i.e. compared against say ptsd which might just be one incident. Anyhow, reason i bring it up is I watched a vid online by a guy wo recovered from it who made a video about how the psyche of a cptsd person is actually quite similar to folks who've experienced war torture or been in a cult. Its like the voices of the perpetrators are like parasites inside the mind of the victim. And that seems to be the same thing you're talking about here. Is this something you've had personal experience with? If so, to what extent have you overcome it. No pressure if you'd rather not talk about it here, or at all.

Hey folks, So I've been doing mindfulness with labelling for a while now. I have done Leo's version where you do cycles, i.e. notice, observe for 5 secs, label the sensory experience, then savor for around 5 secs. However, I've been finding I actually am more attentive when I don't label at all. Instead, i just set a metronome at around 3bpm, select a sensory experience to observe, then pick a new sensory experience to observe when the metronome clicks. The metronome change is something i came up with on my own. I've been watching Shinzen Young's youtube videos on the subject, and I understand Shinzen to be a large part of Leo's inspiration for the technique. From what I understand Shinzen advises to label because it makes spacing out much less likely. However, I'm confused as I seem to get much more benefit out of not labelling, and doing my altered technique. I was wondering if anyone, with experience with the technique, could clarify further what Shinzen might mean by spacing out. Further, I would welcome perspectives on potential traps and pitfalls of my altered version of the technique. Finally, I'd be curious to hear if anyone knows whether, as I suspect, I have simply stumbled upon a different type of meditation. If so, could you tell me the name. Thank you in advance.

@NoSelfSelf Just seen this mate. Nice post. I relate to the first one a lot. I'm working on it but find it difficult.

Nazi doctors and the WW2 Japanese doctors probably didn't help quell the stereotype

@Devin ? ? I can't stop laughing at these ahaha

@Hibahere I imagine I wouldn't out of empathy and compassion for my partner

@Blackjack38 Imo, you need to start working on alleviating the depression from your mind. Otherwise, I imagine the same stop-start patterns will persist. Can do things like concentration practices (samadhi meditation), vipassana meditation, and experiential therapies like gestalt, somatic experiencing and IFS (therapies that really get you working with processing deep emotions). Whatever comes up for you during these practices is okay, imo.

@spiritual memes I'm curious, would you not say accessing self is about transcending ego?
-
@Stratos Here's a perspective on addiction that I like:
-
@Carl-Richard Imo IFS does both. It transcends and integrates.

@spinderella i imagine what is happening is that Byron Katie's work has an effect on certain parts and perhaps helps the user get more access to self. Then this has a snowball effect over time, where the user, acting more from self, develops a better relationship with parts, or even just lives from more of the place of self. I still think pure IFS is much better because your consciously working with parts. I can't see how anything one would achieve with Byron Katie's the work couldn't be achieved with IFS. But i can definitely imagine there is much you cannot achieve with Byron Katie's work that you can with IFS. I suppose you could combine the practices, and use Byron Katie's work as a means of accessing lots of what is called self in IFS.

@Leo Gura After seeing this communication, and that you called the user a 'fucking idiot' on the message you sent when you banned them, I'm done being a mod on this server. To continue being a mod on here simply contradicts too many of my values now.

I think shadow work and meditation could help.

@Potential If you have the financial means, I'd look into depth psychotherapies such as gestalt therapies, and IFS therapy. Developing some mindfulness practices so that you become aware of your unconscious beliefs would be helpful in regards to the therapy, and also just useful in itself, in my opinion, too.

@Yimpa Damn, things just keep getting better and better in this department. i wonder how much of an improvement they've managed to make already.

@StarStruck I like it man. I respect all the work you seem to be doing on yourself btw.
-
@koyadr3 Hey mate, I respect your situation. I'd advise getting started with some inner work on the side as well. Maybe some IFS therapy on the side if you have the finances. Sounds to me like you might be more of a hardcase newbie, which I think requires more inner work on the side. Also, if you want to cold approach, I'd really work on your goal setting. Just work on things like saying 'hi' being your goal. Or even just turning up at the place you wish to game at. Then build over time. Maybe try and get some supportive wings too.
-
@StarStruck Maybe make some of your free association about her too. I.e. "Ow, cool. I never had the chance to read Harry Potter. I bet you read Harry potter though. You have that kind of a vibe to me" I'm not experienced in game btw. But I'll chip in if i think i can still be of value. Maybe just take my thoughts on this topic with a pinch of salt though. I don't wanna mislead you. I understand the green name colour can imply some authority.

@Lincisman I get you posted this a little while back now. But, in my experience, and to my understanding, the IFS process looks quite different given the way your psyche is currently structured, and what defence mechanisms your psyche has adopted. Some folks seem to get a lot more success working with parts in the body, i.e. I've noticed that to be the case with some who experience serious and chronic dissociation. Also, similar to the user above, I've had a lot of resistance with the process. But again I think that has a lot to do with my specific psychic structure. I think if you go into it having had some effective results in meditation then that helps. Though I don't think its a barrier to entry.
