But trump said repeatedly he wanted the war to end before his inauguration, and it was only after Netanyahu met with his envoy that he accepted the ceasefire. He doesn’t care about the Palestinians, but he does care about what makes him look good. He also was enraged at Netanyahu for congratulating Biden when he won. The reason he declared Jerusalem the capital was because his advisors spliced a video of Abbas criticizing him to get him back on Netanyahu’s side. But since then he’s been talking to Qatar and Abbas so they may have convinced him to be less hawkish on Israel.

If there are no hostages to “rescue” even less will report. Recently one soldier committed suicide after being called in to go back. What is planned is probably another “mowing the grass” operation which would be smaller like in 2014 or 2008. But in a few years time, and there is no telling what happens by then.
