There's two versions of cringe for me. One is inclusive the other one is dismissive. I'd separate them by the fact, if the other person would be able to laugh with you at it. One leads to conflict the other to understanding.

Not necessarily. If you see someone dying inside and feel with them, that of course doesn't contradict empathy. The person would probably have laughed at it himself later. But the term "cringe" is nowadays often used to label people or statements one doesn't agree with. It's used as a defensive mechanism of the ego to not really have to realize that that other person is literally also YOU. That goes against truth, because it dismisses parts of oneself, that are being projected on the opposing side. If a topic is labeled "Post all you Cringe here" or something like that I think we will more likely see posts of the latter format. But I could be wrong.

My point is: Cringe kind of contradicts empathy in my view.

Do you enjoy being cringed at? I'm not saying I do, by the way.

Cringe is a human construction. Cringe is a form of Conformity. There's already a Megathread for that meta-topic. This topic is therefore myopic in contrast. @Natasha Tori Maru We don't need a cringe Megathread, because that itself would be cringe by misleading us away from seeing through our own construction of cringe in the first place. QED

You can do it, but that path has a lot of traps & shadows in it. It's very easy to get lost on the way and the consequences would be life altering for sure. Don't do it if you're not really sure you want to explore those areas of the human psyche (including addiction, fear-states, paranoia, etc.) You could easily ruin your life, so watch out.

But at least they dare to make an event out of it ✨

The darkness - what you called fear, pain and suffering - is aware, too. But it's "upside down" in a sense: Directed against Life. We will never be free as long as that darkness persists; as long as there are parts of ourselves that are lost within Darkness. So there is something to do: Making peace with every part of ourselves. Ending the war within ourselves, so that peace in the outside world expands, too. That goes way deeper and is far more difficult than just to "disappear into nothing". It takes everything we got and then some. Only then will the Divine truly awaken. Not by leaving the dream, but by realizing it is the dream. But it's still deeply lost in it, because there are parts you don't even know of yet that it didn't want to accept. We're so many layers deep into dreams in dreams, and so on. It ran away from itself so many times... and now we're here. This is the chance to finally stop running away from what we are and embracing the fact, that ALL is our own Creation. There's no escape. And only in losing the hope to do so there's the possibility of True Peace.

For me it definitely increases consciousness. Though it definitely has a kind of "carnal" aspect, too. Especially if consumed over the course of multiple days in a row or longer times without break in general.
