As Leo has said, the only way to know for sure is direct experience.

@MM1988 what? Cocaine isn't dangerous because it raises your heart rate, it's dangerous for other stressors. Physical health wise, lsd is completely safe. It had no ld-50. No one has ever died from an OD. In my personal experience, my heart rate does not increase at all (maybe slightly). That only happens when something crazy or scary happens in the trip, which is the same as if you were to wake up breathless from a nightmare... That's like saying this drug we make in our bodies called adrenaline should be outlawed for health risks. Now of course, there are some risks with mental health if you are predisposed to it.... -
TheAvatarState replied to Lynnel's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Lynnel yes, a self-imposed limitation of your ego. You've interpreted this in a negative light, unable to see the flipside. Your ego thinks it has a choice in the matter. You're in your head too much (and trust me, I have this problem a lot too)... The grass is a lot greener in the now -
@Black Elephant ? A U T H E N T I C I T Y ?

@Rilles If I only had one year, I'd put aside my life purpose, cause that wouldn't be enough time to gain traction in it. I'd still do consciousness work. Immediately, I'd probably see even more beauty in the world. I'd try a bunch of things I've never tried. I'd probably go outside and do a hike of some sort every day. I'd move back in with my parents (currently in my own apartment). I'd give up video games, porn, and other Bullshit instantly.

You're not getting it. There's no choice here. There's no "I." Whether you want to or not, you're going to experience all there is to experience. You already have, so far. But it's not "you" who did it, it's YOU. Again, you're seeing one half of the coin. "Endless nightmare" is not true at all. You're projecting your notions of "Bad" and "nightmare" onto it. Your argument is egoic and fear-based, it's narrow, it doesn't hold water. Consider that this thing you're "trying to wrap your head around" is wayyyy beyond that. Way more horrifying, grand, magnificent, and beautiful than you could possibly imagine. Leo is right. Consider that you may need to put enlightenment off to the side for now, to focus on more practical personal development. It's clear you're still coming from a rational, practical angle. Nothing wrong with that, but that means you'll have to evolve more until you're ready to tackle enlightenment. -

@LoveandPurpose smile and talk to them like they're a close friend who's interested in what you have to say. Obviously have some notes to keep you in track. Breathe. Smile. There are many ways to help anxiety over time, but since you only have 1 day, that's the best I can say. Run through your talk out loud several times. -

@Ali123 it can be extremely powerful. -
There's a lot to be learned from rich people. There's a lot to be learned from poor people. There's a lot to be learned from spiritual masters. There's a lot to be learned from fools. Above all, study yourself.

@Eric Tarpall in a way it is, because "doing" implies subject/object duality, while "being" implies one-ness and unity. But these are two qualitatively different terms. You can be with or without doing, and you can do with or without being. They're not mutually exclusive, they're not related, which means they can't be "opposites." Here's an insight: "Being" adds a wonderful flavor to "doing" (as you mentioned), but "doing" adds nothing to "being." Hmmmmm.

TheAvatarState replied to Aakash's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
That's something different. Emotional mastery is a practice, love is something you create. As far as I know, this is separate from enlightenment, but enlightenment certainly doesn't hurt! -
moving from orange to green is so hard because you've been demonizing them your whole life. To admit that's where you should be going... that's tough.

OH no, not the language looping thing again! We're trapped in a wormhole, Morty ? -
TheAvatarState replied to Aakash's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
How did I imply that? Everything you've ever seen in your life is pure awareness/consciousness itself. I'm saying that a possible path to enlightenment is to self-inquiry into the nature of awareness, like Rupert Spira says. Almost no one talks about the full ramifications of the fact of you having this experience of awareness. It defies logic. It's mystical. It's a self-referential mindfuck. Dive into that, and great things await. -
Great article, I agree

@Ampresus Aren't we in space right now? -
TheAvatarState replied to Aakash's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Aakash one would have to understand the full ramifications of what it means to be aware. Perhaps that could lead to an enlightenment experience. -
What made you make to this presumption?? ?

TheAvatarState replied to Lynnel's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Lynnel "You" are not going to experience the worst suffering of mankind. That would be a gross misunderstanding of what the video was trying to get across. The eternal, infinite consciousness you are is not bound by time, it created time to bind, limit, and thus create "you." This "problem" that "you" might be a cancer patient or murderer or rapist in the next life holds no water! Because you'll stop playing "you!" The "you" will be dead. This thing of eternal suffering (this is only a concept) is not a problem for the eternal you. Also, you're only seeing one half of the coin. Did you consider eternal bliss and love? "You" will not experience the highest high nor the lowest low... And that's OK. Step outside yourself, and you'll find that this "problem" you think this is is all in your head. It is selective to suite your ego. And it has nothing to do with "you." Reality is Perfect. -
TheAvatarState replied to Pouya's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Pouya Humility has a direct correlation with consciousness. The more you understand your place in this intimately connected system we call reality, the more humble you get. The less you go out of your way to change others... The more you see how ignorance even in the presence of good intentions can fuck it all up. -
Non-dual wannabe checking in I decided not to comment because this isn't the place for it. Sometimes the belief you have a choice can be a positive motivator.

Be VERY careful to not give out answers in such a short talk... This will lead to much confusion and have the opposite effect of what you want. You are not here to save people! The only thing you can successfully accomplish with this talk is to introduce them to spirituality (in a positive light). Do not claim you have the answers to the universe and that you can help people!! Even if that may be true to some extent... In preparation, watch Leo's "No Bullshit guide to spirituality" and take notes. Dispel some myths at the beginning, but don't make that the focus of your talk. The focus should be about what spirituality means TO YOU (don't make it about who's watching, because highlighting all the benefits for the viewer actually comes off like a Oxiclean TV add, while talking about your benefits fees genuine and interesting). Say what true spirituality is, which is just observing actuality. Tell them about meditation, self-inquiry, Journaling, etc. Radiate your interest in life-long learning and discovery! That could really resonate with kids who've been programmed to only learn through high-school and college and that's it. I know it did for me. If you want to have a great talk, be really light on the concepts, and just be excited and happy. You can't tell someone what existence is... Your job is to show them the door, they have to walk through it, and only if they want to. Good luck and have fun! -
@Ingit it's completely up to the vibrational level of the music. Music can bring you down, or it can greatly bring you up. Be very honest with yourself over what music you listen to, and the intent behind it. It might be helpful to relate spiral dynamics to the music. So if you want to be lifted by music, you have to listen to high consciousness music that's at your stage of development or above. Also be aware that Youtube talks can have a similar healing effect (like Sahdguru, Ken Wilbur, etc).
