I think we're conflating confidence and self-esteem here. Confidence is defined as such : Confidence is a state of trust, assurance, and belief in one's own abilities. It involves feeling secure in your skills and having faith in people or future plans. You can be delusional in your confidence because you are perfect just the way you are but generally I don't see that working well for people.
